Looking for comments and maybe guidance on redoing the interior on the "Beater". I have been sitting on new carpet and seat covers from Legendary since pre-Covid. Not sure how long this relationship would last as I've navigated through a few cars to get where I am now. We all have our opinions on the fate of the "Beater" and similar cars. I don't have plans to change her appearance or personality, But I feel worn seat covers, carpets, headliners are like tires, if not wiper blades. Biggest factor in moving forward with this is the quality and condition of the dash cover, steering column, and gauges. They are very nice! It just dosen't make sense to have vinyl and carpet shards flying in my face when I go for a rip. First question I have who can lead me towards the correct paint for the windshield pillar post trim. 1970, saddle #176, And should there be a contrast between this, steering column, and /or lower dash paint. I know J.C. has the answers but we know he's elbow deep in QQ, And I want to share the project with the forum. The only wrong response would be "do what you want it's your car". Its not that simple...
It's your car, do whatever you want (you asked for it). If you pull the carpets and discover holes in the floorpan, then what? SEM makes a line of rattle cans for the interiors, that I have used with some success on soft trim. don't know the correct code for you. I agree that interior looks a little too beater. Make it nice and enjoy the car.
Any auto parts store that deals in paint will be able to look the original paint codes for the car, even the interior colors. That should be easy enough. Most of the stores will be able to put the paint into a rattle can for you. As far as fixing the car up, well, the car has some notoriety in the crowd here, but unfortunately I wouldn't sink much money into it being a non #s car in that condition.
I think I still have a can of the paint I used to paint the column. I'll look for it. The lighter color that the door panels are for example, is a Sem color called "palomino" That dash looks awesome right?
I needed you about a year and a half ago to finish out something I was working on… trying to put a car back to original, I ended up putting a straight bench in that car
Redo the seats and carpet in the same colour tones that it is now and it's the same "beater" but with a face-lift so to speak plus it won't spue chunks of vinyl at you anymore
It could definitely use carpets and a bench seat repair. I was planning on painting those A pillar covers
I used the Eastwood deadener Dave Johnson recommended. You can cut it however you need it to fit. It's like doing a giant puzzle.
