    Generally i love self services.

As someone earlier said, less i have to deal with idiots, the better. Only times i use human cashier is when i buy beer, since its either not allowed at self-service, or then the human watching all machines needs to come and manually allow sale of it, and its usually a hassle. Self services have considerably lowered the time i have to spend at shop, and its all plus in my books.

It’s the future, but fortunately if you live long enough someone smart will get the idea of offering personalized service again …….. Customer Service died in The USA about 20 years ago, in the rest of the World they are still grateful you came and spent your money.

The future is already happening at Amazon. They have new technology and are using it in some new stores. It's called Amazon GO. You just go in, pick up what you want and walk out. Your credit card is charged for the items.

I used to hate those self checkouts then this stupid virus came and I thought,
"We should use the self serve line no one goes there and if I use the person that checks out for me that person touches all the groceries from your cart and everyone elses that came in that line" This was started at the beginning of the pandemic.

So we decided to use the self checkout lines at grocery store, It has been a lot faster and we bag our own groceries anyways so it has really worked out for us. Actually I can get out faster as some stores have only two people working and there are 10 checkout lines. How stupid is that.
I only do this at the grocery store If I go to Home Depot or the other box stores I use the checkout where there is a live person so they can at least keep their jobs.

I'm sorry, but these online order/delivery services for groceries are the the height of laziness for the millennial generation.

While I may be risking alienating a few users who actually use this service... well, won't be the first time.. this really took off last year, when folks were all certain that if they went to Walmart they were going to die.. but it has persisted, I have to naviagate around the "personal shoppers" all the time.. and that is annoying.

Really, your life is that important, that your can't be bothered to go pick out and cart home your own food?

I guess we should expect that from a generation of individuals who got participation trophies... Yes, Johnny, your that important.. Mommy will bring you your groceries..

It's a good service for the elderly or for anyone who has trouble getting around.. but for the able bodied, it is nothing short of ridiculous.

There are very few folks in this world busier than I am, and I can still find time, bad knees and all, to go buy my food.

    Rant over..

I can't wrap my head around the grocery delivery services (for myself anyway) or the ones where you pull up to a spot and they roll it out to your car. Come on, man!!:D I miss the old smileys where you're banging your head against the wall...or the rant one!

Like everything else it all depends on your situation. Being single with no kids, I don't do a lot of shopping, online or otherwise. But for a busy family of five, it's a whole different story.

.. I started thinking / feeling the same way when WiFi Thermostats started getting popular. Im like really? You cant get ur lazy ass off the couch to bump up or lower the T stat and whats with the need to do it while away from home. Haven't touched my T stat in years, set it and forget it

I feel the same way about remote start cars. How much time will it really save you? My wifes car has it and the steps ya gotta take to make it work takes more time than going out the door and pushing the start button. + when its cold out it does not turn on the heater nor the heated seats. Worthless!

I like remote start. Both the ‘07 Tahoe and ‘17 Durango have it, They both sense the outside temp and turn on the A/C if it’s hot. The Chevy turns on the seat heaters if it’s cold; I’m not sure if the Dodge does. They’re both easy-click the ‘lock’ button, press the ‘start’ button and they start.

I like the interpersonal banter you can create with a living check out person. Just had to keep conversations away from any innuendo or double entendres as many of them are high school students. I also shop during low traffic periods, such as early morning, or late evening when stores aren't busy.

Bagging my own groceries during the "hands free" period became kind of a challenge to see how much I could cram into my reusable bags. :D Actually had a couple split apart!

As long as I'm able to walk, there's no chance of online ordering or curbside pickup. I don't want stale wilting produce, or milk expiring today. Much rather choose my own products. Anyone consider that your (likely unrefrigerated) grocery delivery might be a couple hours after its picked and packed? This was a major issue in Minnesota a few years ago.

Locally, they keep the cold stuff in a paper bag in a cooler/freezer and separate from the other room temp stuff.

Online ordering got so bad for the Kroger I have been talking about, there was a 3 day backlog. My wife's friend drove there numerous times for updates on her particular order. Crazy!

Geez. We use the grocery to go app. That makes me lazy? Haha, ok. The wife didn't want to grocery shop last year as she had one in the oven. I took it over. I hadn't grocery shopped a day in my life besides running into the store to grab a couple things, never for a full cart anyway. That is not an easy job wondering around a zoo with a list. The app is handy since it allows you to save a stock order and you can simply submit or make a few adjustments. It saves this lazy fool an easy hour walking aimlessly through the store. Thats a no brainer for me. We live out in the sticks, the store is 40ish minutes away. Conventional shopping on the weekends will soak up a good chunk of the day and going after work using the app takes 5 minutes.

Remote starts? Maybe not a good investment in Florida but here in Vt when its -30° letting the car run for 10-15 minutes is well worth the effort to hit two buttons on the key fob! Sometimes you have to remember to turn the heat on, but chances are the heat will be on from the drive home anyway. Neither one of our current DDs have it. Its a about 750 bucks to put one in the wife's vw so that's not happening. I just deal with it.

The poll isn't the blow out I was expecting. If a bunch of old guys look at it like this, younger people would probably flip the numbers.

I have been exposed to self check out for over 20 years. Probably used it less than 10 times total. I also didn't get a PERSONAL cell phone until about 10 years ago, and still only have a flip-phone. I have a reasonably efficient computer, but still only want Windows 8... No satellite service TV either. Just an old F@^+ kinda stuck in his ways.

It is a real shame, the self checkout situation. It eliminates jobs. This is the plan, eliminate jobs and automate them. The issue is that boycotting the self serves won't teach them a lesson or solve the problem as they don't care.

The only solution is shopping at smaller stores and supporting small business instead of the large chains that are monopolizing every aspect of commerce.
