I've been trying to figure out which aftermarket disc setup to go with on my car and I was hoping to get a bit of advice from you guys.

I know the cheapest route would be to just use stock gm a body components, but I only want to do this once and I want to do it right. I know I wouldn't be happy with the plain jane rotor/calipers they use.

After looking around, I think I've decided on either a kit from SSBC for the front/rear or going with wilwoods.

I've also heard of KORE3 brakes, but i don't really know much about them.

The ssbc kits seem to be a little more complete and might be easier to install, but (yes, its vain) the wilwoods do look better and might fill out my wheels a little nicer. I was just hoping to get some more insight from people who have already done some of these swaps, and the pros/cons of each.

Can't help you with the breaks, but love the 72 custom/gs clones. Doing mine also

What size wheels are you running because that will narrow down the brake choices

theres only 2 choices if you plan to use a 15in rim..
one is right stuff detailing rear disc...camaro rotoirs 1 piston edelrado calipers with parking brake, can get for 350 shipped over at pro-touring.com or 389 sshipped at ebay..

the other would be the baer streat-strip-4(SS4)...alot more pricy but 4 piston power for the rear!

if you plan to run 17s anything 4 piston in up lol...cheapest route would be c4 caliper brackets for the rear...like 50 bucks on ebay...then buy the rest of the stuff you need from advanceauto/napa/autozone etc..

Thanks. It's nice to have the aggressive look of the GS without having to worry about keeping it original. I'd be too concerned with keeping it stock if it was real.

I have a 4 wheel disc setup from SSBC and I'm happy with it. The kit is complete and the parts are top notch. Their tech support is very good too since they are the manufacturer not just a brake parts vendor. There are cheaper kits out there but you can't go wrong with SSBC.

That's a nice kit. I like the idea of separating the hub from the rotor up, similar to late model cars. I have CPP front control arms and they make quality stuff.

Are there any aftermarket setups which fit within 14" rims?

If youre running 17's I'd recommend C5 and base C6 setups. I used Kore 3 brackets and lines, napa rotors, ebay calipers and machined down a drum hub for my setup on my El Camino. Total investment $500. They are 13 in rotors and parts are readily available at any parts store or aftermarket. Keep an eye on the corvette forums to, there are quite a few brake parts for sale, I just picked up a set of Baer eradispeed 2 piece rotors for mine for a good price.

I think most of the single piston caliper kits will work with 14" wheels but always ask the vendor. My SSBC kit fit fine with 14" Buick Rally's.

It looks like i'd need 18 inch wheels to clear the Kore3 setup unless i'm missing something on their website.

The more I look at these, the more i'm leaning towards one with the seperate hub and rotor. The CPP seems to be a good price for the front and rears together, but i like the fact that the Kore3 brakes are essentially vette parts and could be purchased just about anywhere. As best I can tell though, The cpp set dosent have a provision for a parking brake. My car is an automatic though, so I'm not sure if I really even need one.

Edit: After checking out more on Kore3's website, it looks like they only make rear kits for C-clip axles. I'd assume CPP is the same way. If i go that route, i'll have to find a different setup for my BOP 10 bolt.

A parking brake is also known as an emergency brake. I wouldn't drive a car without one.

I was actually running the C5 setup with 16 in Hopsters for a while, it took a bit of grinding on the caliper but it worked. The big problem is clearance with the back the of the spokes and the caliper, i think Kore 3 has a templete you can use to check for clearance

Have you looked at LS1 front brakes from a Camaro at all? They use essentially the same caliper as a vette but are 12 in I think.

I think my 17's would have me really close to fitting their smallest C5 kit in. I hadn't looked into the camaro setup. Do they work with the kore3 bracket as well, or is there another vendor?

I still think the rear setup is my biggest concern. It's hard to find anything that's not made for c-clip axles, and when you do it seems theres a great deal of fabrication to make it fit.

I know it's not aftermarket, but have you checked out the S-10 rear disc brake setup? I picked one up for my GS, but I haven't figured out what front disc setup will be compatible.:TU:
