A board member called on it and the seller stated that it was not the original engine. You would probably have to assume the carb and dist are probably gone with it too.

If it's not a numbers car, I'm not interested. Someone else go get her.

Assuming its in decent condition, what would bea real world price for it?

From the pic, it look like the shifter handle is wrong as well.

In my "real world" , it's heart and soul are gone. It was a factory Stage 1 car. Now,it's a car that you can drive around and not worry about breaking the engine. Honestly , I think 20 k is pushing it. Anything more than that and you could get alot more car for your money. But why is it, theres no Sloan Documents and so few pics? I had better pics of my truck I sold on CL for $3500.00.:Do No: Just my 2 cents.

I talked to Howard , he says he has the sloan docs, can see the ws on the block but can't see a vin, also says the carb is correct. He is a little flexible on price but has anyone in new York gone to see the car , I'm a long way away and don't take people's word no more. Jason have you seen the car? Bill

I wonder why the Buick people with numbers matching cars always turn their snoot up at a car missing the original engine ?
Maybe they feel only their cars should have any value.
The blocks were just plucked off the line and stamped with a code and VIN, otherwise being identical. Install a different cam, carb, heads and dist. What's the big deal ?
The Hemis, LS-6s', RAIVs', etc. are not bothered much in value, if they are correct.

Original engine (to me) matters if you are collecting, but not a lot for driving and enjoying.
There is certainly a premium paid for original, and this car is priced at that original mark or more. At that point it's about being able to get your money back out of it. Even if you don't plan on ever selling you have to think about that if you don't want to pay a sucker fee.

Myself, I sold the GS so that I could have a car that didn't matter what engine, transmission, carb or whatever that went into it. More fun to build a car that you want to drive. There are only a few cars that I would really appreciate as a numbers correct car. A 65 Gran Sport 4 speed comes to mind!

It's not turning my snoot up.It's my personal preference.I'm glad I live in a place where I can express my opinion without being persecuted.I may buy a non-numbers car someday so I can beat on it and not worry about breaking something and making the car worth less. Why do people with non-numbers cars care what other people think, one way or the other? Does it matter? Don't get me started about clones. ( A FANTASTIC idea.) Way more fun than a trailer queen. But I'll probably never own anything but what I've got right now.Sorry the thread got hijacked. I thought it was about a car for sale. Did anyone find out if it's an original drivetrain or not?

As per the sellers admission to a board member, it is not the original engine.

Didn't a basket case stage 1 auto vert sell for like 15k a couple years ago with no drive train?

I dont recall but I dont doubt it John. But that was a couple years ago when Stage 1 carbs were topping out at $3500 too. I think the market has taken a bit of a hit since then.

Yeah but if memory serves the car had a tree growing through it and the hood was cut open with an axe. I think that 20k is low if its really a rust free 4 spd stage car. maybe 30 or a little more. But thats my opinion. I was just sent a ad for a 70Challenger RT that was totalled and it was still at 10950.00 non original engine. It was being sold by DAS ( Dependable Auto Shippers) Must be an interesting story behinfd that.
