    Jim Jones Wretched Excess

Had I known a couple of photos would cause this much turmoil, I'd have refrained from posting. I didn't intend to demean the car or the seller in any manor, I just felt fair warning of an anomaly was due any interested parties on the forum.
The car, restamp or not, was certainly nicely restored with only a few easily correctable issues, and as well documented as any I've seen in quite some time. The car had a lot going for it. I am glad it commanded such a high bid, and I hope the winner is more than satisfied with the car.

There is nothing wrong by speaking up, especially when others won't...

Personally , I commend you for bringing it up . So now the angry mob is making you apologize ? The buyer may well have unlimited resources but I don’t think the majority of us do , and appreciate you saving someone some Serious heartburn . Please keep sharing .

IMHO, you unquestionably should've posted what you did.

I wanted to follow up for the people questioning the originality of the engine in the BaT auction car discussed in this thread.

Below are picture of the engine in one of my '70 Stage 1 cars. This is a project car I intend to restore at some point in the future, but I purchased it because almost ever piece of the car is absolutely original.

The block stamps are somewhat hard to see in these photos, but you can get an idea of what factory original Buick stamp quality quite often was like.

The engine has never been out of the car and has never even had the intake manifold removed.

Every engine part is original (carburetor, distributor, AC compressor, alternator, etc.)

I think Stevie Wonder stamped the VIN number.

The first S in "SS" appears to have been made from a modified 8 stamp. The 9 in the shift number is difficult to see in this photo, but it is made from the upside down "b" that Buick is known for using.

over the past 10 plus years that i have been a member here i have seen many different types of original 1970 SS blocks with different fonts and irregularity that have not been questioned. there are of course some that are just too obvious and easy to spot that are fakes but its just beating a dead horse trying to throw shade on so many others that do not look perfect. above picture is proof of how wacky originals can look.

Dano- Buick installed Quadrajet Spreadbores on the 425 Nailheads in `66; they also installed the same carb and manifold (1 year only) on optional Skylark GS 401`s. If a buyer wanted the dual quad system dealer installation was available. Starting March 1st `66 the Super Wildcat dual quad option became available on the Riviera and Wildcat GS cars from the FACTORY, hence the "MZ" engine code. Only 179 Riv GS`s and 21 Wildcat GS`s were built with the Super Wildcat option in `66.
Guidematic was a dealer installed option in `66, not available as a factory installed option.
Yes, the engine dress up package was included in the GS option in `66 on the full size Riviera and Wildcat.

    Good stuff.

I see the plastic radiator cover but black top overflow. What's your build date?

Also, I'm hoping Gary Steele is saving all these block stamp photos. They'll make a great reference catalog down the road.

The build date is 01D and the initial invoice date was 01-28-1970.

The car has flat gauge lenses.

On the cusp of a "transition" car. That makes sense.
