Hope to have this one at the Nationals this year, it's my first car and was what I drove in high school. Hit a deer and spun some cam bearings back in late 01' and instead of fixing it I took it apart and it's just sit at my parents since then. It's a budget build, just refurbishing as much as possible and making it "correct" but not concourse level by any stretch. It was a hotrod back in school, headers,3in pipes, speakers, amp, big tires etc. This time around I'm just going for a clean simple build with all iron stuff. Should be around 450hp. Blasted the bottom and used 3coats of epoxy, followed by 2 coats of Urethane single stage matte , then used Upol bed liner in the wheel wells and anywhere else the factory would have. Pic from the 2001 Reynolds GA Race, was running 12.40s not as fast as it should have been for what it had, but was still fun for a 17old kid. Was kinda stoked at well the steering shaft turned out yesterday, got probably 4hrs in it, but it's the original rag joint and I mixed up something kinda close to the charcoal grey coating that was on it, could have been few shades darker but no biggie,..I will be driving the crap out of this thing. The frame will be completely finished Sun I hope, gotta blast, build and paint the front control arms then assemble the rear end, plan is to set the body on Sunday or Monday. Welded up some critical points before paint. Followed by epoxy and Urethane single stage matte. I'll post some pics of the chassis once it's finished rite b4 the body goes on. Engine: 76 block, TRW forged and notched pistons, stock rods with polished beams and ARP bolts Heads: Stage 1 irons heavy port work Intake: Iron with heavy portwork Cam: 238/243 5xx 5xx 110lsa Carb: "0243" 70 4speed carb same as stage car. Ignition: petronix distributor, petronix Spark box Trans: fresh detailed "BB" Rear: 12bolt with 3.31's
Really cool. I had never seen you mention this car before. Good luck with the project and please post updates. I really like this part where you said "Planning on running some 12's in BSA this year in BG." I also plan to run in BSA and hope to see you there.
I'm thinking I'll have it up and running by early spring, the bodywork is very minimal just going to block it down with 120 and prime it. The front end will need to be done but no biggie as I have some super clean sheet metal for that. Yea it will be a good bit longer b4 Im running the Orange Car in GSR again, Im itching to run something so this car and BSA is the fastest way to get back out there. Once this is done, then I start on the 71 Stage 4speed,...then the 72 Stage,..ha never ends seems like
Fab-u-lous! I wish I had that to work with, but then I'm glad I don't simply because I would become obsessed with it to say the least..........I'll be watching!
I fully intend on driving it the 7.5hrs to BG, the 3.31 gear and 27in tires should allow for 70mph, I've only driven one Buick to the Nationals, my 86 GN and it's kinda something that has really been gnawing at me. I had a blast driving the GN up , I can only imagine how fun the X will be sliding thru the curves up I-40 and 26
Glad to see you are doing it while u are still young! The older you get the less energy you will have. Build the memories now!
I'm feeling the effects of age more and more ha,.. I'm hoping to be done with all the projects before I turn 40,.. I got 5yrs so the race is on ha. I really wanna be able to enjoy all of them instead of building them. I'm sure I'll build and buy some other stuff after the fact but what we have now is what we intend to keep,.. whatever else that comes along would just be something to piddle with. I do want to build a really slick ramp truck to haul with tho
You got way too much on your hands but lucky for you I am willing to take this car off your hands and give it some love, then you'll be able to focus on the others.....let me know....lol
Nah the GSX isn't going anywhere, the wife gonna have to have deep hole dug for it cause it goes with me ha, I would sell my Orange 70 as a roller tho,...
I really didn't mind turning 40, but I didn't like turning 50 at all! 40 years old ain't nuthin! Its when you hit 50 that sucks! 40 years old and you're still young, on the old side of young but still young. When you turn 50 is when you're old, you're on the young side of old but still old! I would rather be old young than young old hands down!
I think more and more like that every day haha..... A broken back, shoulder, multiple ribs, both arms, both wrists, a leg, collar bone, etc. has aged me. I think physically I'm already 60, mentally I'm still 16. I had to quit wrenching full time because of my injuries but refuse to be on disability, so now I'm the d!ck that tells the wrenchers what to do, but at least I'm a fairly understanding d!ck since I was in their shoes for years.
My body has been beat to hell. The list is long but others have it much worse. I’m determined not to let it slow me down and so far it hasn’t.
