Frame is painted and just got fuel and brake lines clipped on. Suspension parts about finished with paint and bushings. Body is in primer -about ready but the front fenders, inner fenders and hood are needing some attention. Engine is done. Transmission is still at DME. All materials for interior are in the garage.

I have to send my manual box(es) out too - Do you have a place you've used?

I sugest that you refurbish the manual box yourself. We've done several lately and they are very simple. Compared to the other work you are completing, the steering box will be easy.

Here are a couple of the recent manual boxes. I ordered the parts from Heartbeat City Camaro parts (https://www.heartbeatcitycamaro.com/store/category/12/298/Steering-Gear-Box/). The box with a cast iron cover is on a '68 Nova, the box with the aluminum cover is one that I installed on my '72 Buick. The raw cast iron parts were dipped in a gray-black manganese phosphate solution and then sprayed with a light oil.

I've got a never used rebuilt manual box just sitting if you're looking. Came from Hector.

If Ted doesn't want it I'd be interested.

We have a rebuild shop here - we will use the original box. I saw Hector's ad and was tempted!
Gary-Thanks for the details. Was probably going to end up cast iron grey. Now we know :)

A good cast-iron gray paint looks good in my opinion. The PS box on my ‘67 conv was leaking so I thought it might be a good time to take it apart, clean it out, and replace all of the seals and o-rings. While it was apart I blasted the housing and sprayed it with some rattle can cast iron and I think it looks fine.

Thanks! I figured there wasn't much to them. Problem is I can do about anything, but not everything although there's also the time or money thing too & I don't have much of either so the time might win by default since I can't print money:). Maybe I'll look into it.

Since we're on the topic, do you (or anyone) know which cover (cast iron or aluminum) is correct for a '70? I'm not at all confident the box on my Stage 1 is orig & I know the box I have for my 350 isn't (both factory manual steering cars however). I'm thinking aluminum based my recollection of my past factory manual steering cars (both of which I believe had their orig boxes) but I can't say for sure.

I figured you might if it was orig. to the car. I would too in that case. Sent Bob a msg. about his box from Hector.
