I think anyone looking for the kind of power that a 572 engine creates would be better off spending their money on an engine that will live at that horsepower reliably. I'm not saying there haven't been BBB's that are over 650hp WITHOUT a girdled block, but they are far and few between and honestly, it's only a matter of time before the webs blow out. At least if you believe all the hooplah put out by this forum about needing a girdle for anything over 600hp. Cost wise, this guy is basically starting from scratch if he's not going to use the Olds block. Hell, if he wanted to maintain originality, then he should rebuild the stock block with a forged bottom end and turbo the darned thing. Now THAT would be pretty cool. Price wise though, find me someone on here who has a 650+ hp Buick that cost less than 12000 (this is what 540ci, 675hp fully dressed crate engine from Blueprint motors costs). Furthermore, find me those people who drive said car everyday.
I love Buick motors, don't get me wrong. if mine can be rebuilt, then that's what I will do. But for someone looking to eclipse 600hp and is starting from scratch I think it makes good sense to go to an aftermarket solution unless of course they want to stay Buick for Buicks sake.
