Got the intake and carb yesterday. Where on this carb are the numbers located? I see a round circle on one side of it with numbers and some other letters and numbers on another side of the carb. Can some one post a pic??

I believe it should be stamped vertically along a lip on the same side as the throttle linkage. Here is were my Service Replacement Carb is stamped.

Hey Todd, The Numbers should be in that Round Circle. The Circle on One of mine is Turq and the numbers are7026240. I took the Air Cleaner off of my '65/401 and the Base is 4 1/2 " in Dia. This is for the AFB tho. I tried it on a 600 Edelbrock and it's 5' Dia. Now how small is the AFB that's on there now? 500? On a 401? Choke, Choke. I can hammer and dolly it out to 5" so it can fit on a QJ or an Edelbrock. So it'll fit either Carb. I'll just have to take the Manifold off the 401 and enlarge the holes or put on a QJ manifold and be done with it. That is until I get my 425 overhauled. :Brow:

Ponch, just use a 3/4-1" tall sheetmetal ring spacer to put the smaller air cleaner on the larger AFB carb opening. It spaces the air cleaner up to fit the larger carb. I cut a ring out of a 1 pound coffee can.
Search 'air cleaner spacer' on Google for pics. Mr Gasket even makes them.
You will have a slight overhang of the air cleaner lib over the carb, but it's better than trashing a nice original a.c.
I've been meaning to try this to put an AFB a.c. on a Q-jet, but haven't gotten to it yet.

Original Q-jets had the number on the disc, later Q-jets stamped them further back, vertically.

Ponch - watch out trying to use an AFB manifold for a Q-Jet carb..the carb pad might not be wide enough...

Can't believe any of you guys didn't scoop up this intake and carb. No reserve and no bids. Auction ended. If I had seen that I would have bid a penny and only had to pay the shipping of $50 for the intake.

Is there a place on the carb where it looks like a circular metal tab might have been? Or is that the number you gave. The numbers give don't quite match up with the info provided on Cliff's site. Sounds almost like it could be a body casting number. Might need some pictures on this one. If the tag is missing then some of the guru's on here can narrow it down based on the features. You may want to start a new thread in the QJet section and post a few pictures. That is where it will get the best views and more likely for the guru's to see it.

I saw that one, and had a snipe bid set up on it for my limit. But the guy pulled the auction days early.. dont know why. The carb was froma 77 Chevy truck though... not a bad carb, just not a 66.

Take a look at the side of the carb you got, it there's a big empty circle on the drivers side above the primary throttle shaft, your carb is probably a 66 240 and just missing the ID plate. Take a pic and post it on here. If thats what it is, there's some work to be done on it in the needle and seat area to have it be a reliable unit....

I'll get some pictures up asap. I also emailed the gentleman I got the intake and carb from about the other carb. Awaiting pics and or numbers off it. If he does have the correct carb should I also keep this one. Maybe he will sell it to me as well. I'll start my own thread. I don't really want to clog up his thread unless he ok's it.

    Thanks guys!!!!

Hi Guys. I have some Aluminum flashing I could use as a spacer. No, I really don't want to mess up my A/C. I'll probably just put a 3/8th hem on both top and bottom then roll it up. Rivet it together and it should work. Also, Thanks for the sizes. I'll let you know if it works. I just got done with my Stealth Intake. I ground most of the sand casting and hold down bumps off to make it look better.
I also just got my New Plates for my New Car. Cool.

Great looking car, Ponch. Be careful with the spacer, with a pancake air cleaner you still only have about an inch clearance to play with. And if your motor mounts move at all, even less. Torque your car up with the hood open to see what's going on when you nail it before you give up any space. Nailhead motor mounts are notorious for letting go, and can cause a lot of movement. I welded a limit chain to my frame, and bolted it to the driver's side motor mount. Works like a charm after 400-500 runs

that paint is going to work fine ! Thanks Jim.
I'm going to put it on a set of valvlve covers and spark plug covers and the new water pump.
It'll probably be after Christmas, though. The restaurant (my former employer) wants me to come help them out during the rush, now that my football refereeing is over. plus family coming into town for Thangsgiving...

Thanks again, and enjoy your new ride !!

Yes, air cleaner height should be checked....before slamming the hood!
Fortunately, there is some room for a spacer...The original AFB's are tall...3.76", The later aftermarket AFB's are shorter at 3.3", and the Q-jet is 3.275"..... so there is room for at least a 0.4" tall air cleaner spacer without reducing air cleaner-hood clearance.
A motor mount limit chain or cable is always a good idea!

Thanks Again Guys. I had a small clearance issue with my 350 in my Convertible when I put it in. I had to lay a straight edge along the fenders to be sure. I put a wooden Carb spacer on and I had to run it through my planer to get the height I needed. I also needed space for the TV Cable lever. I had to squeeze it both ways. But it worked out. I've heard about a cable or a chain on the Drivers side with a 401-425 in a GS. What would work best? I don't have a Welder so I'm thinking Cable. Also, Thanks for the Measurements Walt. I bid on a Spacer on E Bay. Come to think of it, Maybe I had better check to see if I won. It was an Edelbrock Plastic, 3/4" tall. I can always cut it down to Just Right. I REALLY don't need a nut impression in my hood!!

Hi Guys. I just did some measuring on my QJ Intake. There is only 3/4" between the bottom of the intake and the Rear Throttle Plate on the Carb when it's wide open. This will cause some serious turbulence in the air flow. Anyone know how deep I can go if I grind some of it out? I've been doing some porting on my intake and was just asking. I don't have any room for a carb base spacer. I used a 3/4" spacer on my 350 in my Vert but cant here on my GS. Thanks.
