went over to mission raceway to thrash the Gforce box down the 1/4 mile last weekend other than being rediculously hot (98 f) it was a lot of fun to get back over there.
the results were promosing and was a good learing experience.I now know i need more rear gear to 60ft like the auto they were off a full tenth, the rpm were way down through the lights on the top end probably will go to 4.56s. the car did pick up a few mph over the auto even with a switch to the bias slicks and was a tenth faster than before even in the poor conditions 2700 ft air.
1.53 60ft. (terrible for my car)
    10.40 et
    129.9 mph

464 9.00 compression 304s cam, stage 3 heads, 850, no girdle no fill, spare parts shortblock 3560 lbs

    Adam,

A 10.40 ET with 9.0 to 1 compression is pretty damn impressive. I would really like to hear more about this combo.

    Thanks

the engine is a 75 block no girdle ,stock bolts, no fill 464 ci
used main bearings from my girdled block .0033 cl
my old grp rods with je 38cc piston and reused the rings in this block (i know i was being cheap)
i also took the grooved cam bearings and transfered those too.
this was just a backup shortblock while i do a better one so thats why all the used parts.
stock used oil pump in a pro%$#@ cover, all oil mods drilled and cut into block
new 304 s cam and lifters in at 107 thats all i could get with my old rollmaster.
Ta sp2 with a borrowed 850 demon, aeromotive a1000 and filters and regs( this was going to be for a boosted engine that never happened.)
those heads are the same ones i have had for years they work good 360 cfm.

i do think there is more in it i will have to find out in the spring with some more gear, tuning and time and better air the goal is to go 10 flat with the junk engine

one thing i did notice was the more i reved it the faster it went the difference from shifting at 6500 to 6900 was worth over 2.5 mph but it fell short through the top end at 6200, i need to go through at 6800 to really see the improvement should be a win win better 60ft and more mph

Congrats Adam, your car was flying:3gears:
With better air, gearing and 60ft. Your looking at 10 teen with a fairly 'low buck' combo:beer .
I gotta say your car sounds better than anything you usually hear at the track:bglasses:

That is very impressive. I'm running a very similar combo that isn't performing nearly as well, but I'm not twisting that hard with an automatic. Please excuse my ignorance as I've been out of the Buick deal for about 10 years. Are GRP rods steel or aluminum? I'm also suprised that your running that well with an 850. If you have a Dominator, I would surely give it a try.

the GRP are aluminum rods, the 850 demon does flow aprox 1000 cfm according to them so switching to a dom might help a bit but i am more trying to get the car to work again before i get after more power. i am still trying to iron out the clutch tuning we had adjusted it 6 or more times trying to get it right

Find someone that has a similar combo and has a Pro-Systems Carb and try that one. I bet you you'll pick up more then any carb out there.

Thanks for the reply Adam. That really enlightens me on the value of a light rotating assembly.

That's not mine by far, its my avatar that's all. Like I said come out of your closets boys and run the good stuff and maybe some of you can actually run fast times. My Uncle was running Low 12's in a damn near stock 1970 Buick Skylark GS Stage 1 and you guys struggle to run 12's in a modified Stage 1 ? Adam has some serious stuff in that engine to run the numbers he does. Study you car not just say I want it all under the hood and look totally stock. I can do a 350 chubby that has 1000hp and look damn near stock except the headers and intake. It isn't hard to do that. it's hard to make them hook and not lift the wheels to the moon and having all the rt components to do that. Now here is something for you Buick guys, I'm going to be stuffing a Stroked and poked 455 in a Muff Stain. Why you ask? Simple it's different and I know I can make it fly faster then any Buick out there for cheaper.

    Cap,

The light weight assembly helps but I am guessing the G-Force trans has to be responsibility for some of the performance. A manual trans doesn't have the 4% to 8% converter slip because it is 100% lockup at the top end. The 4.56 gear helps get it off of the line.

I am still shocked that a 9.0 to 1 can go 10.40s.. wow

the t brake 400 was a lot less hassle and worked flawless for years but without the torque mutiplication of a good converter you sure find out the need for more gear in a hurry.
it sure is a wierd sensation to shift a clutch assisted trans witout using it just seems wrong to keep your foot to the floor and just jam it in,the box does work good.

the bob weight is actually kinda heavy 2100 or so because of the thick blower pistons and beefier rods my steel rod 494 actually was less go figure.
what rod are you running John? do you know the weight

    Adam,

I am running a GRP small block chevy rod that is 7.100 long. The bob weight in for my 535 is 1684 gram. I spent a great deal of time and $$$ trying to get things lightweight.
