"This 1972 Buick GS 455 Stage 1 convertible was delivered new to Patterson Buick in Mount Airy, North Carolina in October 1971. The car is finished in Flame Orange over Saddle Brown and is powered by a 455ci V8 paired with a four-speed manual transmission and a Positraction rear axle. Features include a white power convertible soft top, air conditioning, power steering, a power-adjustable driver seat, a Rallye steering wheel, and F41 heavy-duty suspension as well as a rear window defogger, tilt steering column, power windows, 15″ Magnum 500 wheels, power front disc brakes, and a push-button AM/FM radio. The car was refurbished during previous ownership at Michael’s Auto Restoration of Winter Haven, Florida, and was acquired by the selling dealer in 2021. This GS 455 Stage 1 is offered with a window sticker copy, manufacturer’s literature, Sloan Museum production data, an MCCN 2017 Concours Gold certificate, refurbishment records, and a clean Florida title."

Wow, what an option load! And colors! Me: go back to the original sandalwood color top and get rid of the rear spoiler - done. Is the grill and headlight door refurbishment correct(?)

Grille is incorrectly painted. And the surrounds around the headlights should be a dark argent...almost black.

‘Hooo, Barn, would you at that! That’s purty!’ ‘Sure is, Ange.,I bet she’s a runner, too!’
(Imaginary conversation in Mt. Airy right after it was delivered to its proud new owner.)

I Notice that it doesn’t say any of it as to color or 4 speed were factory, or if any of it is numbers…..That makes a big difference as to values.

Nice car, someone forgot to reinstall the core support X bars.. On 71-72 convertible upper peek molding option was only the trunk molding. I could do without that option. I like the rear spoiler look.. I would have changed the interior color..

In one of the pictures it says 100% numbers matching. There’s photos of the numbers on the engine block and transmission case, maybe more I didn’t study all the photos. There’s also Slone documents that seem to confirm it being a 4-speed and other born with options. The color combo is original except for the top. It originally had a Sandalwood top and now it is white. This is definitely a well optioned car. Speed alert is rare for a 4 speed and rear defrost is rare for a convertible. Also, this is supposedly 1 of 6 ‘72 Stage 1 4-speed convertibles with A/C.

Beautiful car, which I would be proud to own.

I don't intend for the following question to be taken as a slight towards the car, but how does a car with the wrong wheel centre caps, missing rubber grommet on the water expansion valve, missing rad cross braces, non-bleeder master cylinder, wrong grill and headlight door colour, colour changed top and addition of a rear spoiler achieve Concours Gold?

From what I have been reading, the judging is so particular that you get deductions for the wrong valve stem caps. Again, not meant to be a pejorative. I am just trying to understand.

Also, what is the black cannister on top of the A/C compressor?

    Cheers

The PDL was apparently added & surprisingly not orig. given how well the car was orig. optioned (not unheard of for an orig. option to have not made the Sloan/WR docs but would take a build sheet or window sticker to prove). Being that either a sandalwood or white top would look great, I'd have opted for the orig. color & no spoiler. Not that I'd have changed the interior color but if anything, would've opted for white interior instead of white top.

Great to see another of orig. 15 that survived and w/orig. sheetmetal & drivetrain. There were five at MCACN in '18 (2 w/all orig. sheetmetal) and incl. this one at least two others (@ctauto's being the other). Hopefully more are out there.

    It is a compressor muffler.

If it is the muffler, I was sure it is supposed to be mounted in a stamped steel bracket on the inner fender, below the compressor. That is where it was on my 72 and this was in accordance with the shop manual.

I agree this one is unusual in style, I am afraid I have no idea if factory installed variations existed.

Lose the spoiler and I like everything about it.

Light bezels look goofy with the thin chrome strips painted over.

It sure is pretty even with that brown interior, sounds nice too.

would the rear defrost be a fan?
    or
    Elements on the rear glass?
I don't see an element on the rear glass.
My '73 Olds conv had an element on the rear glass, is why I ask.

It's a fan. Electric rear window defroster was only available on the big Buicks.

The judges at MCACN that year were not educated in the Buick nuances.

Or any GM A body . Rattle can steering gear , shifter rods , engine mounts ect , black deck lid bolts .
Kinda lipstick pig kinda deal . Nice , but no 994 /1000 car .
10K at one of the resto shops on this board could probably get it to a legit 994 .
