Wow, are we getting like Ford or Mopar people now? What if it has a lighted ash tray? Just kidding. I'm excited to hear your estimates, but I won't be adding it to the Mecum description. Well, maybe I should.

Regarding the black '72 "Stage 1" convert. I agree that it seems pretty questionable, but Mecum can only print what the seller gives them. I write my own descriptions, and they have their staff tidy it up a bit. Still waiting for the seller to send in the VIN and have it posted.

I will quote myself  I looked at the numbers and the option load on the car (I made the window sticker back in 2011).
This car has Fast Variable Ratio PS and 8 of the 15 Stage 1 4-speed convertibles had that. That is all the additional info I have.

The reason I asked the question about the color/4spd combo on the 72 is because a friend had one out of Washington that had some type of lien/estate/ title issue in the early 2000's. Met this fella off craigslist, and when he told me of the car, I didn't believe him at first. IIRC, he mentioned the word Florida, so it could have lived there prior. I'll try to contact Kevin and see what he can share. Mike G. I believe you know him from the Mecum/Jackson scene. I think it's one of the best looking 72's out there and should do very well at auction. Could set the record for a 72.

Anyone's memory banks remember the stolen one? If I remember correctly, it was dark blue black top/interior. For some reason, red pinstripes come to mind. Story was it was stolen out of a storage facility in CT. My friend bought it unknowingly. It was in my driveway for about an hour while he was showing it to me. He wound up reselling it before detectives showed up at his door.

I agree, with only 81 Stage I's convertibles built in 71 and 72 and the 4-speeds numbering 9 in 1971 and 15 in 1972, I'd say most of them were probably 1 of 1 built cars? I had a 1971 4-speed model back in the 94-96 timeframe and it was Cortez Gold with a white bench interior, non-air, ps, pdb. It was the roughest car I'd ever owned and also the rarest. That's the only one I regret selling now. Larry.

I think that car was from my area before it ended up stolen.

A local guy owned it and I recall him saying it had been ripped off where he stored it.

    Something like that.

Different car AND probably a scam. Not sure how my name got used in an ad like that, but this is the first time I've ever seen that.

Max Damage I'm working on it!

It went from being a "GS Stage 1" to a plain old "Skylark".

    Thanks for the updated link.

For whatever this info is worth I've been chasing these 4-speed cars for a long time. One of the Stratomist cars did not have its original engine or transmission. Another blue one not sure exactly which shade of blue but not stratomist was an outright vin# swap onto a 70 or 71 skylark body. The data tags motor and trans were swapped from a rusted out carcass . Both of these cars were in NY state the Stratomist car went to NJ the other not sure.
