The savings on the exchange rate more than makes up for the import fees and process.

$22400 USD at today's exchange rate. That is for the car & a truck load of desirable parts.

Only 211 GS 455 cars were painted Burgundy Mist (Code 78). The color sure stands out from the sea of brown & gold cars.

What do others think of the car?

If I had room, I would try to get the car for closer to $20K USD assuming someone I trust looked at it first.

I don't think he is selling the car without all the parts. So what value are you placing on the NOS fenders, rust free quarters, 2 NOS grilles along with the bevy of badges etc?

    From the ad....

    NOS front fenders
    NOS grills x2
    NOS badging
    Complete rear fenders
    Numerous other parts

I guess 2500 USD. Not all buyers want to be parts flippers. The fenders are likely unusable as they sit and the badging is likely GM licensed repop

Sorry but why are NOS fenders unusable? Please explain.

I know that the badging is reputed to be original parts by the seller. A previous owner collected parts for decades from GM dealer stock all over Canada. That is how the fenders & grilles were acquired too. There is also an NOS wing & a rust free driver side door among the cache of parts.

The car sold new in Swift Current Saskatchewan. Second owner was a family friend who drag raced a 1970 GS 455 Stage 1 car in the 1970s. He became the second owner in the mid 1970s but never did anything with the car but gather parts for it. He sold it in the early 1980s to another person who pulled the engine & put new bearings in it (claiming that it needing nothing else). This person also painted the car the original color around 1985. He kept the car until Dec 2012 when he sold it to the current owner. The cache of parts always went with the car.

I have copies of the build sheet & the documentation from GM of Canada for the car. It is not perfect but it is reputed to be numbers matching & fairly original.

When the car was 1st listed for sale I was away in Oregon visiting family but got home last night. He still has the car & I am making the 3 hour drive to the car tomorrow morning.

Cash deposit is in my pocket. Perhaps this is the Buick for me to add to my Olds collection. I'll know tomorrow.

Do a search on NOS 70-72 fenders on this website.

Let us know if you purchase the car. If it's not the one for you, I'm thinking about taking a look at it.

Interesting read on the fenders. Thanks for the heads up. I'll use that as a bargaining chip.

I would prefer to buy just the car but don't think he will sell the car alone. I'll see what I can do if the car checks out.

I am sure you can find buyers for the extras if you are inclined to invest the time.

I hope it is as nice as described. pictures would be nice to post here once you make a decision.

I will post pictures either way. Comments and constructive criticism welcome.

I have had the car under my hat for almost 2 weeks & was hoping no one would scoop the car on me before I got back from my trip to Oregon. Needless to say I have been a little distracted by it. Wont sleep much tonight.

I wish it had disc brakes, posi & the handling package but those are all things easily added to the car. I like the color combo & it is a 1970 GS 455 with original drivetrain, buckets & console. That is worth looking at.

    Sneak Peak

Good luck Dave! I know you've looking for a "keeper" and this one looks like a beauty. Awesome color combo. Car looks great in pics. Do you know why he collected all the parts for it? Shouldn't be any trouble selling the parts of the car doesn't need them. By "complete rear fenders" I'm assuming it's NOS quarters. If so, I'd say you have closer to $4k USD in parts there. Even the "bad" fenders are worth decent $. I've un-stitched a couple sets - not too bad. Excited for you - Can't wait for the update.

    Build Sheet

only 211 of the 10148 GS 455 cars was painted Burgundy Mist. Roughly 2% of the production. That is pretty rare to me.

Good luck with the deal, looks like a great opportunity to own what appears to be a quality / survivor car...

Can someone tell me if the chalk mark 78 on the firewall is for the paint code or just conincidence?

Not sure, but the "mark" , beit chalk or wax, looks pretty fresh in the photo. Is that also a marking behind the brake booster?
