    I ran across a 66' Wildcat GS hardtop. The car is complete and I'm told it runs but it will need a complete restoration. Metal, glass and chrome are in good condition. I am currently restoring a 71' stage1 but I'm not really familiar with this model. The motor has aluminum valve covers with "Buick" stamped on the sides and appears to be the original 425. The car is in New Mexico I don't have any further history on it. My question is this; would this be something worth buying and what kind of price range am I looking at for a car ~ #3.5 condition.

    Thanks,
    Mark

    Yes it would be, for the right price. :Brow:
    Single or dual quad?
    I can't be much help in pricing it, I'm more partial to the 65's myself.
    Topcat should be around and if he sees this then he'll be able to help.
    Can you get some pictures?

    I can get some pictures tomorrow let me know what you want, The car looks to be a faded ice blue with a dried out white interior I didn't pull the air cleaner but I noticed the intake was like a high rise but factory and complete.

    If it's a real Wildcat GS, should have a qjet carb! or dual carbs maybe! There were only a few made, 198 comes to mind, but I'd have to look it up!

    Thanks for the info Roberta I have been looking through some other sites and I read something about an option Y48 is that just for the GS option or was that a special order. Would the Y48 be found on the id tag?

    Any pictures would be a big help.
    FYI;
    The single Q-jet had a single-snorkel air cleaner.
    Here's a picture of the dual quad (under a '65 hood)

    I will post some pictures tomorrow by noon mountain time. Can't say for sure if the air cleaner was single or dual snorkel . I only popped the hood briefly since at the time I didn't have the ok to check it out it was sitting along side a building at a business. ; )

    Everybody here probably knows 66GS Wildcat was a one year only thing. No other Wildcat GS than the 66.

    Another thing... the 66GS Riv was the last year for the GS model, which I assume means that you can tell it's a real GS from the VIN (though I don't know how) and if so that probably holds true for the Wildcat too.

    Rare model, probably easily documentable. Even if it's not a super wildcat (425 2X4) it should scoot. I used to have a 66GS Riv with a 425 1X4 that was no slouch Again assuming, if it's a GS model it probably has a 3.42 posi rear too.

    If it was a 66GS Wildcat convertible, now I think they made about twenty of those. I saw one for sale once, and know of a guy that has two. Very rare indeed.

    Got some pictures of the car but the file size is 400K I will try and post as many as I can when I can figure out how to trim the file down. The vin # inside the drivers door is 466376C112583 and the id tag in the engine compatment reads..

    01E
    ST 66-46637 BC 1417
    TR 453 N1
    C08 C60

    The car has all the GS emblems attached and the interior seats both front and rear have a metal wildcat button in the upper center of them. Cool car but needs
    a complete going through.

    Last one, also the car has all the hub caps only piece missing is the side trim on the passenger side. The guy is asking $3000 for it. Not sure if there is a big following for a fullsize hardtop maybe someone who knows these cars can give me some feedback.

    Thanks again,
    Mark

    Yes that is one sweet car indeed. I saw a picture of one that was all red on another Buick site. I sure would like to see what the interior looks like! The car is in the central portion of the state, The cowl info is: 01E
    ST 66-46637 BC 1417
    TR 453 N1
    C08 C60

    Forgot about your other question. I haven't looked in the trunk the owner was busy but he was generous enough to allow me to take some pictures. I did look under the car and from what I can tell it is solid with the exception of a broken exhaust pipe at the muffler. All the panels are straight and the glass is clean with no cracks. The front bumper is pushed in a bit but nothing that cant be fixed. The rear looks good and the taillight lenses are intact.

    GS is an option

    Where the Riv is concerned, I'm certain that GS is an OPTION (not a model) from '65 up until I think '72. There is no way to tell from the VIN number. I don't know about Wildcats, but I would be inclined to believe they were made that way also.

    I learned this from an article published in the 'Riview' (ROA publication) about this subject sometime ago.

    The Wildcat in the picture appears to be correct, but I don't see the chrome single snorkel air cleaner. Nor do I see the wood 'rally' steering wheel, which both are part of the GS option. :TU:

    Also,the Riv GS had glove box ornamentation that said 'Riviera GS'. I would assume there would be one on the Wildcat GS as well. I have dealer literature for that car with pictures but I'm too lazy to look for it.:)

    st-66 == Year
    4==Buick
    6637==Wildcat Custom GS
    n==Burgundy Mist
    C08==Vinyl roof cv.
    C60== Air conditioning
    The code on the engine should be "MW"

    How far off of I 40 is it?
    Doyou have the VIN# for the Cat?

    The dash should also have 1 WILDCAT GS emblem on the right side. Inside the dash should be the tire inflation label, it should read for WILDCAT GS only.

    Joe the Wildcat GS could also come with the custom steering wheel.
    Our Wildcat GS came with Hubcaps but also the A-8.

    I have alot of info on these cars so ask questions and I will try to find the answers.

    Here's the dash emblem picture, I tried to open the glove box but it seemed locked or frozen and I didn't want to pry on something that wasn't mine. If I go back to this guy I will have to have money in hand I think I used up my alotted free time with this gentelman.
