Well duh, what I mentioned isn't for the novice engine builder but would work great with a set of AutoTec pistons that are customizable for less than the custom price. The rods I mentioned are less distance from bolt to bolt so without any offset grinding of the crank they could have plenty of cam clearance or enough, we'll never know if no one uses them.:idea2:

And Buick kinda dropped the ball when they went to the 340 because the 300 deck height was plenty tall enough for 350 cid. What would of been better is if they raised the dam cam when they went from the 215 to the 300 when they raised the deck from 8.90" to 9.543" and left it there or only went slightly higher for the 340/350 deck height to no more than 9.800". That would make the dh .388" shorter with a 9.800" dh and a lot easier to use parts from different engines to make something with nothing! But I digress....(who makes a small block with 10.188" deck height with a 4.24" bore spacing!?!?!?)LOL! The tall dh was so Buick could make the rotating assembly much heavier paired with their low rpm swirl port cylinder head design is their secret to the Buick small block's low end torque because of the BB stroke and BB weight of the rotating assembly once it is spinning the rotating weight gave it the low end torque. Using a longer lighter rod and shorter lighter piston is a good way to correct what Buick did to make the sb perform instead of being just a great low end torque low rpm small cid engine for a daily driver how Buick intended them to be.(shorter deck height would make it much easier to transform into a performer! But hey what can I say, I like a challenge.:puzzled:)

I doubt Hershe will do a rod run, I offered to do 350 rods with 2 maybes that were interested(from here), unless Hershe finds people not on this website to buy them.(no offense intended to anyone on this website or to the website itself) I just haven't seen the interest here for a project like that, BUT I am going to try again next year(maybe I'll try kick starter if I don't have the funds when the time is right?) unless TA gets them made first then everyone is probably looking at least $100 more from them(but TA is more likely to restock their rods if they run out? And TA has more overhead than I do, so........... I may do 1 run and offer them to TA if they would want to re-order from my source?) and without mentioning the huge price tag from the Hershe rods. But maybe Hershe will if they see 350 TA heads being a hit seller and they get many requests?:Do No: Either way better short block pieces will be needed when the al heads and sp intake come out. With the new heads and intake, better rods will need better pistons and with better rods and pistons the limits of the blocks and cranks will be tested. If the block proves stronger than the crank, then an aftermarket crank wouldn't be out of the question. But if the blocks fails before the cranks then no sense in making an aftermarket crank. Hopefully we all soon find out where the weak links are because that would mean that people are doing some serious builds! :Brow:

Can't use the 2.100" big end rods with a Buick, the 2.100" is with the bearings in them and the Buick cranks' rod journal standard is 2.00".

Has anyone seen a price on the heads or intake? Just curious to know what I need to spend on the wagon.:laugh:

I am sure the intake and heads will be priced about the same as the 455 parts...

Just grab an envalope and stash away any cash you can, that is wha i did... Counted it last night and i have $4200 so that should cover heads intake roller cam and roller rockers with some $ to spare...

I get the cash back option at home depot, wallmart and anywhere else that offers it... That way leanne does not see any cash withdrawls on the bank statement lol...

Hershe will indeed do runs..but they'll need an X amount of orders prior to making them
When I got mine they only needed 3 orders...last I've read they needed 5..
Rods aren't a big problem anyways
As we all know different rods that will work and some like the LS rods that shall work if someone would just incorperate them into their build..
I may just put an pre-order in for the intake now that we actually have pics.

Folks. The SP3 needs some additional work before it's release, I posted pictures so everyone could see where we were. I do not believe that our SP1 & 2 manifolds are as far off as some say here. During the Car Craft engine shoot out the SP1 was worth more of a power increase than the newest single plane that was bolted to the BB Chevy. This SP3 intake is not an all out race only intake. The SP3 is designed for upper rpm as well as giving great street performance and some mileage. Most all SP3 intakes will see more street use than track and need to work well there with an extension in rpm range. The floor does have a mound in it. I understand I can not make everyone happy but we truly feel this was the better way to go. The needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few. For the few, yes some hand work and customizing could be promising. It will fit under the hood and you might even be able to but a GS air cleaner on.

I for one really appreciate the effort you guys are putting into these projects!!!! THANK YOU! The SP intake will be a great option for the 350, there is no doubt about that! There will always be a few haters in each crowd, just remember that for every stick in the mud there are 100 of us that appreciate this!

Good job on the intake Mike. Probably put my 1" spacer back on. :) My GS air cleaner will stay on the shelf, where it belongs.:TU: Originality shouldn't be a concern with a s/p style manifold. :Brow:

I'm sorry for coming on here and trying to say something that I was use to on other brands of engines. Mike at ta mentioned something I must correct first, if you are trying to say the SP1 intake gained more power then any other intake made by any manufacture and What magazine is saying this is in correct! Dart, Profiler, and several others have a non all out race intake that has over come a lot of power just by bolting it on certain engines. Don't get me wrong here, your intake is a kick but intake for "under the hood deal." But, I wouldve done some more research and had that same intake refined to better the fuel atomization. Your design works but why have spend more money to make it work rt? Yes, I understand its not a all out race intake but if you want performance of any kind you must have it semi-tuned correctly . I don't mean any disrespect to anyone on here.. Now that being said, I'm willing to make some contacts of some companies that can help Mike at TA to get some aftermarket parts made for you all. Here is a question that I hope it doesn't come back and haunt me, Why is it so important to have a single plane intake manifold that fits underthe hood? The reason I ask this is not out of disrespect but, if no one doesn't think Buick's have power, then they need a arseoctomy! My Uncle has had four Buick's 455Stage 1 GS Skylarks and everyone in Flint, Michigan knew better to pull up next to him because they got smoked if they did!

How far can the Buick 350 be bored out? My book that I have say you can't stroke. them because of the compacted internals. Has anyone heard of Marcella's Manifolds? He only does manifolds of all sizes and brands from sheet metal to full custom one of a kind , Hacked up, welded together cast aluminium intakes that make any aftermarket squirm! Please check his website and look at his pictures selection. I'll get some pictures from another forum on a different website that is not posted on his website too. Here is the thing though, he is not cheap by far but the best out there...

I'm not trying to mean any disrespect here just want to help if I can! If no one understands what I'm talking about please refer to tuning a induction system. It explains it better than me.

How far can a Buick 350 be bored out? Johnny has gone 3.875 and 3.890 .my engine is being pushed to 3.900 . depends on sonic check and how much you want to pay for pistons.
TA has some knowledge in this area. Let the pros work. We know this isn't a best race manifold ever setup its something that most can get use from. Just relax.

There simply are not enough people that want all out race engines to justify doing a mass production of a max effort race intake for the Buick 350. TA is going out on a limb making us this intake!

The fact is that yes there are a few of us Buick freaks that are willing to have custom intake, custom turbos, girdles etc. However people like me are few and far between, most people simply do not have the desire or funds to push things to the extreme... Myself personally I stand little to gain with the new TA intake as I have a nice custom sheet metal intake here on the shelf...

The HUGE winner in this whole deal is the average joe Buick guy who now has the option to either build a 350 hp ta212 cammed engine with a dual plane intake... Or a hot street strip engine with a big cam and the single plane... Not everyone can afford a $1500+ intake and i was quoted $3500 by Hogan to make a one off 350 intake.

We have already proved that a single plane intake works well on the 350 and now anyone can have one!

Over the years the 350 has been neglected by the aftermarket, and it was really frustrating for those of us die hard 350 guys trying desperately to get people to recognize the potential and merit of this engine! Finally it is time for us to enjoy a new era of performance thanks to TA Performance. From this point on I wil support TA by buying everything i can through them! I used to buy rebuild kits from other companies but now that they have came though with the heads and intake they will get much more of my $.

This intake is the gateway to 350 performance, not the be all end all and it's not intended to be that. It's a bolt on part that allows you to significantly alter your top end setup.

The TA 212 has long been known to be the best off the shelf cam for a mild 350. Now with this Sp3 we can raise the bar. Full roller setups and higher compression engines will now be seen as a better dollar per horsepower deal than before. As more people buy parts things will get cheaper. Those who complain they could build a Chevy 350 cheaper might be surprised when in a few years you can build a hot SBB for only slightly more money.

I see the future and it's full of 12 second Street cars and butt-hurt non beleivers
