Ronald Reagan..... That reminds me of the Sienfeld episode that (was it Costanza?) bought the Chrysler from John Voight (not Jon Voight, it was John Voight)
1973, just out of the Navy. Small Gas Station around Sharon/Mercer PA. Found a 64 4Spd Fairlane. Car had a Fiberglass Hood, and small Master locks on the Hood Pins. Yea, the Owner wants to sell it. $1800. Had "Caveman" painted on the sides. I'm Not Paying $1800 for a 9 Year Old Roached out Ford! Car is in the Snyder Collection around New Middletown Ohio, Last Appraisal I knew of was @ $250K (15 Years ago) Car has since been on Cover of Hot Rod, & Documented as 1 of the Real Thunderbolts. JR
/\/\/\/\ Who knew, back then, that certain cars were going to skyrocket in value. They were just 'old cars' in '73.
A '70 Z-28 and '89 turbo trans am-both nice and low $. The Z was stolen/striped and I still have the pace car. I hope money wasn't down and an agreement for the remainder the next day as 'Leno's guy' shows up
Several years ago I posted my story of the Packard that got away. I was 14. A neighbor was moving. She had an "old car" in her garage that had belonged to a family member. She knew that I loved cars. Did I want it? HELL, YES!" But my mom said no. I was too young to have a car. The car was a 1928 two-tone tan (with red wire wheels) Packard dual-cowl phaeton. It was perfect except for the tired, cracked upholstery. I figure that today it would be worth north of $1 million. Get this: The owner paid a salvage yard to haul it away. ou:
Four years ago at the Flint Sloan car show with my 72 stage1 convertable. A man walked up and said "I have one of these in my barn." I asked him what it was. He told me "it's a 1970 stage1 4 speed with no options." I asked him if it was for sale and it was! The car came with the original bill of sale and protecto plate. I am doing a frame off restoration, then it's going up for sale.
Wow! You know i love reading these stories guys. Just the other day, I found THREE (3) 69-70 Pontiac Firebirds that were completely gone (parted out or wrecked), two mid 70s Novas, a Brockway Tow Truck from the 60s, an Impala with Police Interceptor Package and a International Harvester tow truck from the 30s.
Neighbor behind me has 3 Gen 2 Trans Ams in Various stages of Demolition, that I think he wants to sell. I don't have Any interest, but if someone does, I will try to talk with him. I know 1 had For Sale written on it, and he now has a Gen 4 Camaro he is playing with. JR
Honestly, i am not sure. i know its all original and its been sitting for awhile. I can find out more if you are interested.
A 62 black 4-door Biscayne. Was originally ordered by an oil field "hot shot" service in Oklahoma. 2-4 409 with a 4 speed, Black with gray interior. It is my understanding it was used to get parts into the field at high speeds. In 1976 or 77 a 1970 a Boss 429 in Las Animas, CO that had less than 5000 miles. It had it all including the window sticker, they wanted "to much" for a 7 year old car. Recently helped pull this 62 Ramp side out of a yard in OK. Surprisingly complete and relatively rust free.
About 1975 Bought a set of 53 Skylark wire wheels for $125 . I asked the guy where he got the wheels , he said they are off a conv that his buddy is using for a parts car to fix his 53 Super sedan. I called his buddy , he said it was a Super all dented up . Was it for sale ? ,he said $75 but it doesn't run . Went to Rockville Maryland with my tow bar. Holy SH#T, a 1953 Skylark conv with continental kit !!! Car NO 11. And the horn cap says " Built for Milton Eisenhower " Ikes brother. Couldn't wait to hook it up and get home . Got it running, kept for a year and sold it. I think it is still in Maryland and in some form of rebuild.
picked up this nova, had been sitting last 7 or 8 yrs in a garage, guy I got it from said he got it just "helping out a buddy loosing his house" guy I got it from didn't know much about it and said he wasn't a car guy:Brow: I restored the interior, put the stock hood back on, and doll'd it up a little, it has a wicked 454, 3500ish converter and 4.56 gears I think it was seriously street raced back in the 90's.
/\/\/\ I like od-ball cars like that Biscayne. Makes people look twice because you just don't see them every day.
