I was just curious how many members on this board are in the 25yrs and younger category. I am always intersested to hear about people my age (23) and younger who are into the older cars. It is a pretty rare thing around my neck of the woods. I know a lot of the younger crowd thinks older cars are "ugly" and "noisy". Most of my friends really appreciate older cars but don't really understand them. One of the main reasons I enjoy this board is that the "seasoned veterans" are more than willing to share their knowledge. Because of this board (and a lot of wrench time) I find myself giving out educated advice. In just three years I have gone from never touching a wrench before to doing everything from header installations to engine swaps in my own garage:grin: .

I was always hanging over the shoulders of a neighbor that restored 71-72 cutlass convertibles. I'm actually surprised I'm not an Olds owner right now. I know enough to get around....but then I hit a snag and walk to the computer:TU:

    72skylark 4 Doors of Fury!

I'm 21 too, I've just always liked the older cars. Maybe since my clubhouse as a kid was a rusty 68 GTO, of coarse that was sold for parts before I came close to being driving age... :(
The typical younger crowd doesn't even know what fast is. Whenever I give someone a ride in my skylark, they'd think it's really fast.... it's a high 15 second car!!! if they think that's fast makes ya wonder how fast their honda's really are?!? (high 15's was before the motor work, gonna be alot better when I get it back together)
I'm lucky that I'm very technically inclined, and my old man is too, and used to be into cars (now more into heavy machinery)... So whenever I got stuck on something, I'd just ask him... and any buick specific stuff, I'd ask here.

19 here, have been going to car shows since before I was born (mom was 8 months pregnant), haven't ever stopped. I've wanted a 70-72 GM A-Body since I was about 10, I'm just glad I found my Skylark before a cheap Chevelle (is that an oxymoron?).

I have ALWAYS had a fetish with vintage style hot rods... flat heads, primer, 7" wide wheels and all business is something I love

NONE of my import friends think that my car is overly noisy or lsmelly. In fact, they like it... even though it is slow (yah, their cars are considerably faster). A lot of them say its too quiet and that it needs a bigger and better exhaust... they all are gearheads, no matter what they drive.

My mom did the best she could teaching me, but its magazines that have got me to where I am mechanically (which isn't very far). Book knowledge doesn't do much when its knowledge about the wrong kind of cars.

Dad doesn't help, doesn't want to help, never has... despite his love for old cars and motorcycles.

still a youngin...not sure how I really got into older cars...but I do remember seeing them on the road, and wanting one. Really liked the Chevelles and Malibus, but had a special place for the Skylark -- which is why I bought one (72).

Iam 17...... I really only like old muscle car...there arent too many new cars i like out there.. they definetly dont sound the same... my dad got me into Buicks and so did my uncle.. i try to go to as many car shows/ drag racing events as possible.... u would be surprised at how many young kids actually like old muscle cars... i have several friends that love imports but would take a muscle car over a import any day... and i started to really like the old Mustangs... like the 1969 Boss 429 .. that my dream car ..or a 1970 Torino or a Cyclone... anything with a BB is awsome... but if i had to have a newer car i would have to have a TransAmWs6... <too bad Buick has no new car worth buying> :)

This show of hands is great. We all know age doesn't matter in appreciation of the muscle cars, but sometimes someone on the board will post young=rice. They are likely tired of all the young ricers who think they are fast, and will probably appreciate this thread more than the rest of us.

tlivingd BIG BLOCK, THE ANTI PRIUS

at 23 love cruzin in the 33 yr old car. there is something to say about the better handling of newer vehicles thoguh.. but with the lack of style. who wants a new car. another thing is I know quite a few people with a 4-6 yr old car and they all have problems with them. from simple stuff like altenators to expensive stuff like transmissions failing and heads cracking. the cost of them to get these vehicles repaired is outrageous. heck a complete rear brake job on the skylark cost me about 45 bucks. includes new cylinders and shoes. (drums are great)

try that with most newer cars and your up there in price.

heck the head on a crapalear installed was 800 bucks installed for the guy i work with. and some minor trans fix was over 300 on a neon.

i think its still cheaper to buy an old car and fix it when it needs it than getting screwed buying a newer car. I hate the 50-75 dollar fee they charge you to plug your car into the computer to tell them whats wrong with it.

I'm 23 and have always been into older cars. My first obsession were old Mercedes, most likely because my dad had a '69? 190 I think that I remember being driven in. When my dad moved to Florida awhile back, his first car down there was an early 70's LeSabre convertable. My first car was a '78 Impala and once I got into college, one of my best friends was really into older stuff and I got hooked by association. He is actually the one who found the 225 for me.

I'm 19, and I've always been into older cars. I remember when i was young and my dad'a uncle had this old chevy (I believe it was a '37) and i thought it was the coolest thing ever. I had always been a chevy fan until i got my Skylark running. I still like old Chevys, But there's something definately cool about owning a
    Buick.
