Lady rides a NYC cab. Leaves a 30 cent tip on an 11 dollar ride. Leaves a BAG of diamonds in the trunk. Cabbie chases her down through traffic, returns diamonds. She gives him $100? I know it's still good money, but it seems she's be a tad more generous for a BAG of diamonds. Especially after insulting him with a 30 cent tip.

    Ken,

Is your 69 color code 55 (turquoise irid)?

Have you ever tried to match it or have it painted the same color?

    Just curious for future reference.

Actually, yes, I did have it repainted that same color. The pic might look a little light. The car was originally crystal blue (not sure of the code) but when I purchased it back in '85 it had already been repainted turquoise (55). When I had the car repainted, I kept that color because you almost never see them, and I get so many compliments on that color it's unbelievable.

    Is yours that color too?

(so much for the thread direction)

When the guy painted it, I gave him the swatch. He matched by eye because the paint he was using did not have a computer code for this color. It's close enough for me, maybe a gnat's a$$ more green or bright than original though. It's basecoat, clearcoat, so that always looks a bit different than the original lacquers did.

Yup. It's a real head turner, especially with the top down. I picked up a color chart from 1969 on e-bay. I was thinking that might help when I finally bite the bullet and have it painted.

Anybody else with a drop top that gets paint cracking where the rear quarters meet the fill panel? Mine are cracked on both sides. Must be all that torque :TU:

I knocked on the door and a woman called out who is it i said i think i found your wallet outside pathmark mame. what are you talking about she said i explaind myself again there was silence then the door opened a crack she swiped the wallet from my hand and slamed the door almost catching my fingers. Not even a thank you did i get. Money was tight at that time I did the right thing and it almost caused me a crushed hand :af: :Dou: :puzzled:

Well, now that we are in a deep freeze, I'm not doing much of anything.

Plus, when I pull the motor, I need to find a reputable shop if I need my crank cut. I know nothing about rebuilding engines either. I've heard so many horror stories from people that I wish I had to dough to buy a T/A crate motor because that is what I'd do.

When the chill cuts a bit I'll have to see what the damage is. Shouldn't be too catastophic hopefully. Didn't send anything through the oil pan, but lost oil pressure and have a lower end clunkity clunk. Oil doesn't look all that great either. It lost that nice amber tint. Musta gotten HOT. First Christmas wish was a gauge cluster from Summit. Got, but a little late. :error:

Well, considering people are now doing donuts in their pickups out in the middles of the lakes here, I'd say it's "nippy".

..and these lakes aren't shallow. Some are 80 feet deep. I'd hate to run across a weak spot in my SUV. :Dou:

...then again, most of those guys are hammered anyway. LOL

Ahhh, I miss the scoolteachers and such when I worked in the FR. QTR. in the summer. Always dressed in light airy cotton shirts (usually letting it all hang out), running into the store to buy 1$ poinchos whenever a rain would fall.usually every summer afternoon....good times....:)

Drove a truck delivering groceries for a small neighborhood grocery store when I was younger to some pretty exclusive homes in the Boston area. there were some very wealthy and prominant people I delivered to. the majority of these cheapskates never gave me a dime for a tip even after dragging in several boxes across the walk that they never bothered to clear of snow and fighting past there stupid full size French Poodle that was always trying to bite me. Whenever I delivered to some middle class people they always made the effort to give me a few bucks though they could less afford it.

Which brings us to this joke:

Dr. Calvin Rickson, a scientist from Texas A&M University, has
invented a bra that keeps women's breasts from jiggling and prevents the nipples from pushing through the fabric of their clothing when cold weather sets in.
    *
At a news conference announcing the invention of the bra, a large
group of men took Dr. Rickson outside and kicked the s**t out of him.

....boy have I digressed from the original thread title. :Dou:

Working as a Firefighter /EMT in St Louis Mo I have seen it all . I have had my life threatened if I couldn't save a gangbanger that was shot in the head (not by me) Every year we spend 6 hours a day for a week collecting for Jerry's Kids . The people at give the most can afford it the least and I have yet to see this change .

I drive cab/livery in greater Boston and I'd say about 40% of my fairs dont tip at all. The worst offenders are foreigners and wealthy business men/women. The best tippers are middle to lower class Americans. Unfortunatly most of my fairs are the Foreigners and wealthy executives type's (I work the 128 belt which is second to Silicon Valley in technology type business's).

Simple, because they appreciate the value of a hard earned American dollar. Rich people tend not to. I can't explain the foreigners other than I think tipping seems to be an Amercican trait from my experience over seas.

When I was in my late teens I delivered pizza nights and weekends as a second job. The best tippers were guys playing poker! They'd take up a collection to pay for the three or four pizzas and if the bill came to around $20 or so, they'd give me $30 and say "keep the change!" The worst tippers were always WOMEN!! Especially the nursing students at the local hospital. My girlfriend at the time tried to excuse the nurses' poor tips by saying "they don't have much money". I replied "neither do I! That's why I'm doing this lousy job!" My father told me when I was small "The tip is part of the meal. If you can't afford the tip, you can't afford the meal!!" Working for tips makes you a better tipper, in my opinion. I overtip if the service is average or above average, but I never undertip, not for meals, cabs, nothing . Even a below average worker is still working to earn a living.
As far as the "Cheapskate" this thread was started for....I'd have to agree that the $100 tip for returning the diamonds was justified, the lousy tip for the cabfare was not. Returning someone's property isn't supposed to be heroic, it's part of the job.
As for the lady who snatched the wallet.....I'd have rung the bell again and when she came to the door, I would have yelled "You're Welcome!"
