    Hey Paul,
Did you get the wide ratio gears??
i want to convert mine from close ratio m21 to wide ratio m22 i think it would perform better with the bigger spread between gears along with the lower first gear ratio.
    Any thoughts?
    Adam.

My car is a real GS455 4 speed. It was a fairly light option car. PS/manual drums/4 speed/no posi/14" wheels. The original color was Desert Gold with a Black vinyl top. I still have the #'s matching motor/carb and rear but the trans was replaced before I bought it in 1983.
If you cruise over to the other side of the river, shoot me a line and maybe we can meet up.

I went with the close ratio gears to go with the 3.91 gears.

Scott Thanks for posting detail on GS.
I am always interested in how uniquely optioned these cars were built.

I did not like it when I went from a close ratio to a wide ratio.....................

that was before the transformation from Chevy to Buick

    Hi Mike ,
Thanks for the reply, could you elaborate?
I always thought the Buick would like the bigger spread between gears to take advantage of the torque spread the 455 has.
I run a tall tire, 275/60x 15 and even with the 3.90 (which will be swapped later to 3.42) it thought the lower first gear in the wide ratio would help launches. Although it's not like it won't burn up tires at will anyway......
    Adam.

The close ratio is only "closer" than the wide ratio on the 3 to 4 shift. 1-2 and 2-3 is the same spread.

Sorry to correct you Greg but here are the gear ratios for a wide and close ratio.
    Wide Ratio; 1st 2.52, 2nd 1.88, 3th 1.46, 4th 1.00
    Close Ratio !st 2.20, 2nd 1.64, 3th 1.28, 4th 1.00
These ratios are for Muncie 4-speeds

Greg is correct. Look at the gear ratios of the two. The rpm drop is virtually the same between both transmissions until 4th gear.
