My wife and I drove to "Bob's Big Boy" burger joint in Burbank,CA late ystdy afternoon--close to NBC studios and a lot of other hollywood places--well it was mobbed with ALL the cars from the time we love so much. I couldn't even get the car stopped--I had guys yelling at me "My GOD is that a Buick 4spd?!!!:eek2: on and on "Do you want to sell it?":af: Wow does that thing sound nice-- on and on etc. There were some GREAT cars--I saw a PLUM HEMI CHALLENGER convertible--it was a CLONE--but it looked great--I think there were ONLY 14 made in 70/71. A guy who had a 427-tripowered vette came over and looked at my car and said "That's one fine looking Buick---not only has it got balls--it's got a -ick,too. I was there for 6 hours just talking cars--course the weather was gorgeous about 78 at 5PM and 60 when I left at 11PM. It was neat getting so much attention for a Buick.:beer Pete:3gears: +1
Having driven both automatic and 4 speed big block Buicks there is no comparison. For fun factor the stick car wins by a landslide. They do seem to generate more interest then the automatic cars. :3gears:
Sure, rub it in. Not only do you get a 4 spd, but 60 DEGREES AT 11 PM!!!!??? We haven't seen 60 but 1 week all year. It was warmer here on CHRISTMAS than on EASTER!!!:af: Oh how I can't wait for June
Absolutely correct.. 4 speed is the way to go.. Way to go Pete, I'll bet your car sounds great.. Mike
i used to get all kinds of attention with my 70 GS455 4 speed. being a black Buick didnt hurt either:TU:
True all Buicks are droolworthy:Brow: but any musclecar takes on a different persona if it is a stick shift. There's something about looking into the interior and seeing the magic stick sitting between the seats. I can't tell you how many times I've heard guy #1 say to guy #2: "Dude, it's a 4-speed" when they peak into my car.:3gears:
I can stiil remember the first time i saw my GS, looked in the window and saw the Hurst shifter and T handle:birthday: It was mine the next day. A 4 speed GS is a completely different animal than an automatic, I still think they are better suited to an auto trans but man! the 4 speeds are:3gears: fun!
I get a few passing remarks about the manual trans at the shows that I attend. By and large the majority of the people who look at my car ask, I didn't know Pontiac made a GS!!!? I do get some of the more knowledgeable gearheads who really appreciate the rarity of a 4 speed BBB, but most say "I didn't know Buick made a muscle car!!?" Mike is right about the difference between the auto and stick fun factor. I have had 2 of my buddies who own auto Big Block Buick GS cars, who rode in mine and said that it was a real "Animal" compared to their cars. I can hardly wait to get out and get Slideways!!!
Scott Is your GS a real GS 455 4 speed car? If so what is it's factory color combo and option load? Thanks
I was at a cruise one time and heard the comment "you're never disappointed when you look inside and see a four speed." Couldn't agree more.
:beers2: :beers2: :beers2: How have you been Jerry? May 5th there's a 'Buick Picnic' in Holland PA at Yardley's. Hopefully, see you (and your GS) there :TU:
I've been lucky enough to find (without even looking) and buy two over the years. Most folk are astonished to find a Buick so configured. In '70 they were down around 10 percent of total production. NICE!:3gears:
I had my M21 converted to a M22 with a new set of Masiero gears. You should see how people react when i slowly go thru the gears and they hear that rock Crusher whine.........
