Forgot to ad yesterday that I am looking for either a drivers side or both front side light gaskets. The drivers side is split and I cant seem to find a new one for reasonable $$$ or other. Can anyone help a poor altar boy?? TIA... Bill in TR

Bill: No doubt you are making real progress. Unless you buy one of these already restored, they always cost more to restore than expected. It happened to me too! Not many of us can afford $50K. The "T" is cool, but I couldn't get any sound. The video of your Buick came through loud and clear.

BTW, if you do go to Cuba, you can pick me up on the Erie Canal in Marcy - I'll be waiting with my thumb out and a box full of spark plugs for the natives - I don't smoke, but maybe we can trade them for cigars!

Youd be a smoker (?) by the time we get there! Cuba has great soil and climate for growing, ah, er, tobacco.:TU: Bill in TR

Don't know about the sound... works for me. Hmmm...

No, its not a facefork; I don't do them either...

Got the door all assembled, awaiting handle gaskets. Ill put the mirrors on after the doors hung for levelness. New rubber stuff fit surprisingly well as well as the window fuzzies. Got the body jamb sanded, cleaned, wiped, masked and painted too. 85 days to go! Probably hang this door tomorrow and then start on the other side next. Bill in TR still looking for a side marker light gasket for the left front!

Just sitting back and watching... big storm coming, New Yorkers fleeing for Florida, crawling across the frozen tundra to get out to my shop (its a 25 foot walk), life a beach, and then ya swim...

Got the drivers side door hung so its outa the way. Small shop means tripping over stuff and that's getting old in a hurry. Finished up with the inside of the passenger door yesterday and painted this morning. Nice warm shop means it should be dry to handle by tomorrow for a flipping to get at the outside. Its not nearly as "punky" as the drivers side was. While that's going on Ill probably have the door jams close to being done... one step at a time. Taking the wife out to see that sniper flick tonight followed by some tasty Mexican grub. Since this place opened up, the stray dog population has dropped off quite a bit LOL. Bill in TR

OK guys... need some input here... The kids coming over later to pull the rear wheels to clean and paint the rear 1/2 of the frame etc. While he's in there, I figgered its time to pull the Right Rear axle for a seal leak. The differential is an OLDS job but NOT a w27. Its about a 3:24 open gear. Does this have the spider gear pin and C clip retainers or just the flange inside the brake drum? Any ideas appreciated! Bill: Probably a question for monzaz - he rebuilds/sell rears.

If it's Olds, there should be 4 nuts holding it on under the drum.

Just in from the shop for a minute... to me that looks like an ol' 12 bolt chevy. We'll try and get some numbers off the axle tubes today; the kids underneath with a wire brush as we speak... Bill in TR

Geoff... can you please shoot me some info for monzaz ? Is he a member here? TIA.................................................................--->>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I don't know what it is really. I know the sway bar looks hinky for 68-72. OK...I just looked again...I'm fairly certain it's a Type O (Olds), you can tell from the pic of the u joint...the parallel ribs on the side of the dif. http://chevellestuff.net/qd/rear_axle_info.htm

Thanks guys! And especially Larry... I just sent monzaz a PM... we shall see what the outcome is...So far its yachtsmanwilly 2, doors ZERO. Body jambs and hinges are next. Had the SIL over today for some wire brushing and painting, just working from the inside out. This really needed doing and the kids' not afraid to lay on cold concrete! My old bones cant handle it LOL... Bill in TR

Bill: Larry replied before I could. Your son-in-law looks so happy to be helping you out! Car is looking better all the time. Is that white appliance epoxy out of a rattle can? Color looks to be matching up nicely.

Absolutely on all counts Geoff! (THE secret) herein lies, that after the repairs and prep. I literally brush on two heavy coats of white gloss out of a can with a 79 cent brush, let it barely tack up, and spray it with about 5 coats of appliance epoxy; right outa the spray can!. That stuff is really only enamel with some hardener in it along wit touloulene, which is a really slow drying solvent and still hot enough to melt the base coats and flow out. I let all the white stuff sit for a few days before any handling. Right now the noggin' is spinnin' and the earss' are a ringin'.

Pulled the fumbled mirror apart for service today. New glass should be here soon. That color is so damn close, that the mirrors are getting a dose of it too. You can see a difference in the pics from the fluorescent lights on the camera, but in person its negligible. Outshines the imron junk that's on there by a mile.

I need to go to Tampa for a month hehe! Bill in TR

This place reminds me of "Action in the North Atlantic". All the other forums Im on are so stagnant (even my own!), that I just cant believe the activity here!

Got my new glass for the mirror from TPP today. It seems larger than the mounting pad, but does fit into the housing. I hafta compare it to the passenger side. They actually list L&R part numbers, but the mirror appears on both sides of the glass. Is this an illusion, or too much, ah, er......Door handle gaskets came with it so those are going back on soon.

Passenger door is painted and today was the body jamb. Looks great. Rebuilt THOSE door hinges and painted them. Got a pic here of the back side of the differential backing plate. So far its a 12 bolt OLDS Model "O" with an unknown open gear (speedo is right on the money though / Buick 400T). Still no answer about how to pull the axles. See where this is going? Might as well service the gears, get the numbers, and pull the C clips if there are any...Another friggin' project.

Taking tomorrow off! Going with the wife to the YMCA for a morning swim and an hour in the hot tub there. Thens its off to Kohls for some shoes. Ive been wearing my sunday shoes in the shop and they are now painted GRAY.

OOH! OOH! Also cleaned the crud off the brake drums with a needle gun (scaler), washed, primed and painted them Buick red of course! The PO painted them over all the rusty scaly junk before and the paint failed. Bill in TR

Bill...if it's Olds, you take off the 4 nuts that holds the the retainer that holds the axle in. I thought I mentioned this before. They are under the brake cylinder between the shoes. You get at them thru the hole in the axle flange where the wheel studs are located. Then you use a puller, there are no C clips. There is an "old school" trick. You can turn the drum backwards, loosely bolt it on, and carefully use the drum like a slide hammer. You don't want to damage the threads. You can also whack the drum with a hammer if the nuts are tighter. It should come out pretty easily w/o removing the dif cover. If not...then you might have to Plan B and look behind the cover.

Thanks Frank... Ive got an axle puller slide hammer and Im really good at jacking stuff off (!!) Spoke with Jim at JDrace (monzaz here) and he concurred. Ive got a feeling the cover is gonna come off anyway, as the PO said he went through the gear box, stating its a peg leg, and ended up with a seal leak. Poor workmanship or a short bill of goods??? I quit second guessing the guys work. It just plain old "all sucks". They guy was a dufus.

Sooo... last night my power supply failed on the bozoputer. Ive got that all apart on my desk and chasing down a new one and 2 new fans while Im in there at Best Buy... Maybe a GEEK can show me something today... Yeah right. Its only an 80 mile round trip. We'll do lunch while in Sheboygan today so thatll be nice. A day off??? Aint gonna happen in this lifetime.... Well, a hundred miles and $50 later with new power supply in hand we headed home. Did lunch with tomato basil soup... i No Mas Fina ! Got the new power box in and WHAM!!!! Nothing. Unit powered up but no data transmission to the monitor. Hmmm... Turns out after a trip to the local ex-hippy, hydroponic gardening hippies' computer shop in town that the AVG(?) plug on the back (the big one with two screws for retaining it) was cracked on the board. Chinaman gotee me. The guy used an adapter that goes from my cable to the other flat plug right next to it and BAM! Success. Nothing worse than looking for an intermittent short in a gas gage sender ya know??

Sooo.... back on schedule today. Gonna get that door hung and maybe start on the front fender bottoms. We shall see... Bill in TR

I need a shot of Viagra I.V. the whole days projects just went limp :af: ... Just checked out the replacement mirror from TPP and its a 1/2" bigger all the way around. Even compared to the other side, TOO large. Also ordered a door handle gasket set. Book made it sound like it was per side. I received TWO complete kits and need to return one. WTF??? Just sent a return authorization email, we'll see where that goes... They also sent me an invoice and then ADDED the shipping to the original amount. Hmmm... Maybe they'll send me a bag full of good stuff with the right parts... seems they have plenty of that to go around. :Dou:
