Gotta love this, who's up? even has buy it now! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/71-7...001QQitemZ110190799876QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
I figure someone had better jump on it from here, more so than anyone else! Wish I had the cash... Weird about the photo... looks like a short block, no heads. And is that an oil pan gasket i see? Need resident experts to review this.
I beleive this is our friend from Texarkana. Buyer beware. Anyone recognize the 1394851 number? It's not a valid casting number. "Make your non-matching numbers car matching numbers", gotta love it...
David, I would be no different than any other 455 you put in your car. Even though the seller says "this will make your car numbers-matching", it will not. There is no way to have a "numbers-matching" car without the factory installed driveline in place. Stage 1 blocks did not have a different part number than any other 455. Also, this looks to be a used short block and not new. Yes, that is an oil pan gasket you are seeing on the bottom of the block. Since the seller is in Texarkana, Arkansas and our buddy with the GSX's was also located there (what was his name again??), I would proceed with extreme caution!!!uzzled:
Man this board is great. I was temporarily excitied for anybody that needed it. But glad to know there are those among us that know these people that do this ^^&*( and can call them out. Sorry to have wasted board space on this guy.
That's not an oil pan gasket. It's that thick waxxy grease they sprayed the block with. It's everywhere. I just picked up a 76 NOS short block. Here's a pic.. Ray
Brain fart, what can I say! I'm thinking casting numbers but knowing full well, and even read in the post, part numbers is what was being discussed. :spank:
It is at least a crate with the correct 71-72 Stage 1 replacement short block part number on it. If the short block inside that crate is the one that came in it to begin with, then it will get you a factory replacement short block for a 71-72 GS Stage 1. It will not make your car "numbers matching" as the seller says it will. The casting date will, more than likely, not be correct for your car and any stamped letters/numbers/codes will not be correct for your car. It will NOT make your car have any more value than if you used another 455 you would find anywhere. Whoever buys that engine will have to have the motor completely torn down, hot tanked and then re-assembled. Cosmoline, especially cosmoline sitting that long (35+ years probably) will not just wash off.
I smell a squid...V8sbuickbuddy and this Donny1973fu is a hoax...About 1/2 hour ago there were 11 or so posts by Donnyfu in the 1973 cars pic section...
It is real as I too have some of these in the crate. It has a factory service replacement number on the front of the block. Yes they are in cosmo.
A REED chided me a while back for some casual effort to look a bit more closely at his cars, etc. He mentioned to me (err, challenged) to find out who his Grandfather was in order to answer questions about all the rare Buick parts and cars he had access to. Anyone have an idea about an elderly man (now passed away) living in the Texarkana, AR/TX area who may have conversed and collected in Buick circles over the years? I suspect there are more parts coming, though.
