First off I would like to say that the 455 swap is very impressive and that it seems like you had some hard luck the whole week and I hope you get it sorted out. The purple car is Jim Rocks car. I walked by the trailer in the pits and the car was inside. The right side of it was a few inches higher than the left side. Then we met up with Stan Zerucha in the pits and he told us what had happened. There goes a whole tube chassis and body. Really good and strong running car too. Too bad.
My hat's off to YOU, Kevin. Lots of folks would have been in their room crying and trying to get a plane ticket home, but you kept a great attitiude the whole time. Best time I've had in 21 national Buick events!!! I was glad to be a part of it.
A bone stock used SF motor has no right to run 14.19!!! :eek2: Kevin is a natural, cutting 2.1 and 2.0 60 fts on street tires on his first time ever on a drag strip!!!
Dont tell that to his new bullet !!! Nice Burnout in the TUnnel Kev !! :TU: Here's the "money" Run (Ignore Moon's commentary in the background - He was on the phone selling a MiniVan ou: ) http://itnmedia.com/alan/bpg/wolverine1419.wmv
Actually Im gonna have to miss englishtown this year - first time in 8 or 9 years - but I'll probably be in Cecil Cty
How did I miss a motor swap going on in the staging lanes??!! What an awesome story Kevin. Really shows what kind of club we have. :TU: :beer
Really.............Johnno should be the judge of our burnout contest. Talking to him about the burnouts behind the redroof was like talking to Vincent Van Gogh!! I got to watch some of John Campbell's footage and Johnno commented "The pavement was perfect and look at how well I painted the back stop. I had my speed down to a perfect 5 mph and just look how the car started to go sideways......it was perfect" Menwhile I hear Chris Rodriguez saying "There's something wrong with him!!" in the background. Good fun guys!!
Donuts aside I should give a little more background info on the SF Motor. When Dan (FLoydsbuick) & I drove that old 70 Electra convertable back to the railroad.........we new it was an awesome motor. It still blows my mind what an awesome performer it has turned out to be!! No telling how long it sat around, but it was running when I bought it....... and the car was a waste. We had to do a couple of reverse burnouts to straighten out the frame so we could drive it accross Youngstown!! However, the motor ran like a champ and its in the perfect car now, a 70 GS. When I moved to Youngstown from Pennsylvania in June, I had no place to store the motor. I horse traded it to Don Eggers for motor work prior to Nationals where Kevin found it at the swap meet........Wow, talk about fate!!
Yeah Dave, we knew that engine was a winner. I was concerned when folks heard noises at first cause I swore up and down that it was tip-top. Matter-of-fact, I think I was the first one to talk to Wolverine when he stopped at Don's area to check out the engine. I started telling him there that it ran great! Another Matter-of-fact is that I may have been part of that little voice he heard saying DO THE SWAP! Anyway, that Electra hauled butt nicely, if not scarily! I mean, that frame was toast! I think we coulda busted the car in half on the railroad tracks if we wanted to. I especially enjoyed running out of gas miles from our destination as I had to sit there for a half hour with an unregistered pile of crap!
That was a tense moment when it stalled at the intersection on Belmont Ave. We lucked out that it was a downhill push to the parking lot, otherwise we would have been screwed!! I'm just glad that frame held together long enough to get us back............if you recall it split in half when you jacked the car up to take off the Buick ralleys off!!
pics Well..............I got my pics back from Nats. Here are some that need to be shared. There was definitely something happening in the pits.
