Bought one like it just after highschool. Got it from my wife's grandmother.
It was 12 years old with 22K miles on it. Sold it about a year later as I couldn't keep gas in it, working way out of town on an apprentice's pay.
Wife & I used to go watch the submarine races..........a lot. :Brow:
Don't think either one of could twist & turn enough just to get in the backseat now.
Turned 40 couple years ago, still wanted to think I was just a teenager.

    3shields Let's go, MOUNTAINEERS!!!

    Best bargain

I have always wanted a Stage car, but the main reason is because I always felt it was the most bang for my buck! An equivelent mopar, or chevy will set you back dearly now. Chevelles, although I like them, are far too common....and mopars are far too expensive to buy/restore. We are the fortunate who realize the value and brute power of our cars and most of us have basically gotten in on the ground floor. Now, the general public is discovering the performance aspect of buick and many are seeing the light. Watch the values continue to rise...... :Smarty:

I bought one because of one huge holeshot in the high school parking lot by a 68 GS400. "it made holes in the pavement''. in one word -TORQUE-

I Got my buick about 6 or so months before I joined the v8 buick board, my grandma gave me my car for free and I still have it in hopes for switching it over in my name in october or november. I'll say one thing, I have liked this car from the first day I rode in it, it was the very first car I rode in and I was only a few days old. :) Not only do I like it, but it is a very reliable car, it has outlasted alot of the newer cars in this family and continues too amaze me, be it one thing or another. And this is also the car that got me heavy into buicks, and classic american cars in general. :TU:

65WILDKAT A PROUD FATHER OF THREE!

    The Reason Why

I don't want this to sound like a "pity party" I bought My 65 WILDCAT
For two reasons: (1) I have always liked them because as I was growing up I was an Abused Child, I grew up in the Ghetto of Philadelphia and my Mother was not what you would call a "GOOD MOM" ,So I was abused by many of her "BOYFRIENDS" They would beat me and at times I would end up with broken bones and locked in the cellar for a few days without any lights or food, BUT! I had an Uncle whom I was named after and also was my Godfather and he always took good care of me! He owned a 65 BUICK WILDCAT and he would take me on long rides to the shore in it or just a ride around the city,But it was my escape from my Living hell at home, My Uncle found out about the abuse and had the rest of my brothers and my sister removed from my Mother, He tried to take me in but this was back in the 60's and he was not married so I was not allowed to live with him. It was the last car I rode in before I was put in a home for kids for 8 years until I moved in with a foster home for 7 years until I was able to move out on my own! I still to this day remember that car! It is a reminder of the Love that my Uncle had for me and I had always wanted one as I got older, When My Son became of age to drive and have his own car he found it on Ebay and not knowing about my Love for this car he thought it was a cool looking car and told me about it, So I bought it for him but youth has no patience nor do I have a lot of money to have someone fix the car up for me, Along with being handicapped from a motorcycle accident back in 99 I could not get the car on the road fast enough for him! So he bought a Nissian 4 door, But I kept the car and I will do my best to keep it for a long time to come. My Transmission went on it and my Wife and kids thought that I was going to junk it but NO WAY!!!!! It will ride again and I will get lost in my childhood memories of my Uncle and all the good times we had in his car and smile! .I lost track of my Uncle when I was put in the home, but I know that if he could see me now and see the Cat he would smile and give me a huge hug and a pat on the back because he loved his Cat back in 1965 and was sorry to loose his car to a wreck a few years later. So This car has a Life long Story even tho it is not my Uncle Don's it looks just like it!
Sorry for rambling on, But some asked............

Ahhhhhhh - The Luv of Buicks !

While my luv affair with automobiles goes back a long way, my luv affair with Buicks started in '68, and I seem to be stuck in a time warp ! My Riviera commands attention wherever I take it, at shows, or local cruise nites with the hood open, and those 4 head lites pointing towards the sky. It's most definetly different, and hails from a time where automobile design and style still meant something.
The comments and compliments from admirers makes you feel proud to own such a fine automobile !
No wunder I luv my Buick Riviera and other Buicks !

Most of the above. A boattail is vastly different then most automobiles. I love cruising in it, and it was cheap(ish)

My Buick love comes from my grandfather, my Riviera love comes from loving huge two doors, and the love of the open road has been in my family since people invented the road.

For 4500 dollars Canadian I got my dream car in fairly good shape. Sure it needs paint and a little chrome, but I've seen worse, and it runs as well as any car I've ever owned. Buick people do seem to seek others out, probably due to our minority status.

I couldn't vote in the Poll, either.

My Buick is the first car I ever bought, way back in 1982 when it was just 3 years old. Drove it through High school; sold it 1 year later; bought it back 6 months after that. Been sitting in the garage ever since. Haven't driven it since 1985. It's only seen the sun about 5 times since then...when I push it outside to wash it.

Never drive your cars. They just get dirty and rack up miles. Just sit and admire them in the garage.

Beats restoring a worn-out car anyday.

    Nope...no joke. Absolutely true.

Except for the part about 'never drive your cars'.... I'll drive it as soon as I'm done with it. Hopefully next year.

In 1986 my son and I went to Englishtown dragstrip, and I saw my 1st gsx.
The owner gave me the tour of his white gsx but said at the end of the tour
"don't worry you won't be able to find one, they only made 187 white gsx in 1970".The following day I was going to a meeting, and saw this car parked down a side street, with a spoiler on the rear. Turned up the street, and there starring me in the face was a white gsx, bought it.......

    Buick Power!

It started out as a cheap winter beater car when I was 17. Thats when I was introduced to Buick torque, quality, reliability, and a smooth, comfortable, quiet ride. Now I've had my current Buick for 18 years. I have to admit, I'm attached to the car. I have spent more than twice what it's worth restoring it so the only way I'm going to get my money's worth out of it is to drive it. Being a little different also suits me. Driving an old car is like a time machine, which is cool for me. All that said, the number one reason I own my Buick is the POWER! :3gears: and speaking of power.... GIMME SOME MORE PLEASE!!!!!

I don't consider mine a "classic" car in the typical sense. It has style, I like it, and it has sentimental value. The fact that it's a classic has nothing to do with why I keep it.

Because of Mr.Anderson my high school autoshop teacher, I didn't see that choice up there

He was a certified Buick nut. He had bought a brand new Saturn Yellow GSX, regualr 455, four speed, the rarest combo I think, in 1970. He still had it and also had a cool '65 Riv GS with dual quads, a '79 mid size Buick wagon he had stuffed a Buick 350 into, and a Jeep Wagoneer that had come from the factory with a Buick 350. He rubbed off on me. When it came time to buy a musclecar, Buick was on the top of my list and I lucked into a pretty dang nice one. I like that it is pretty inconspicuous next to striped Chevelles and the like. I love the huge torque. Mr. Anderson was on the right track, these are sweet cars!

I have had my Buick since 1985. The reason I own and love it is because it's different and unique. It's not a Chevy. I've even had Chevy guys discreetly say it has better lines than a Chevelle. My mind would repeatly say WTF after hearing that. But on the outside I just smile and say thanks. My .02 :) John

    it's in my blood.
My Dad is a Buick man. My Grandpa was too.
The first time I ever had a ride in my Dad's GS, the brutality of the torque amazed me. I didn't know cars could be like that! That and the fact that they're original. You don't see them everywhere.
You have to wonder if some people are genetically predisposed to liking Buick styling. I know a lot of people hate it. My friend with a camaro thinks my 69 is butt ugly, and likes to tell me whenever he sees it. Maybe he just doesn't have the Buick gene. :)
