I have noticed many different people at shows and cruise-ins over the years. There is a big variety of people driving classic cars. I over hear some bragging about how much money they have in their cars and others bragging how cheap they bought it. I hear some boasting about how fast it is and others how they bought one like they had when they were young. So, what is your reason for owning one? o No:

"all of the above" LOL. Specifically I have the Buick because I saw a picture of one when I was a kid and wanted one because I thought it was sooooo cooool. But generally I like old cars because they are cheap(ish) to maintain, easy to work on, etc. and don't depreciate like modern cars do. I also like something stylish, something different. I also love the way my Buick drives, when it drives right I also own a Rambler and a Plymouth and a junk-yard-refugee Ford daily driver and have similar feelings about each of them. My wife has a Toyota Celica, fine car, fast, reliable, almost economical, but just doesn't give me the vibe. Also I will NEVER work on it!
Buick to the Bone I've had different project cars over the years. 54 Chev, 75 Ford 4X4, 66 Pontiac. All have gone by the way side, different thing take priority, kids, mortage, college or university education. I have been looking for a projet car for a number of years, looked at Firebirds, Cameros, Chevelles, even an Edsel all nice but nothing struck my fancy. Till I saw a 64 Skylark 2dr ht. That's it :grin: It gave me what I have been looking for. A car that can be turned into a mild muscle car that's not very common.
Hehehe After looking at the selections, I had to say because I bought it cheap. It was about 1983, I didn't have a ton of cash, and I did NOT know what it really looked like (other than something similar to a Chevelle, Cutlass, or Lemans)! :Brow: I picked it over a shaker hood cuda convertible because the GS had very nice orginal interior compared to the trashed cuda's, and it was $1,000 less. :Smarty: Actually, I really wanted both...

My choice isn't listed. I bought my 71 GS convertible in March of 04 without much thought to it being a Buick. I liked Buicks, but if it had been a nice 442 or something, I would have bought it. I joined this group, and the Austin Area Buicks, and quickly discovered what so many have: Buick people are just a little different; a little more mature maybe. Hard to pinpoint. Maybe nicer is the word. It is because of these new virtual friendships, and some real ones in this area too, that I considered ONLY Buicks when it came time to change toys. So I found and bought my 68 Riviera GS. So, my answer would have to be Buick People. Frank

Most of them apply, it was hard to select just one. I always wanted one since a Vietnam buddy of mine had an uncle who owned a Buick dealer in the Bronx, NY and gave him a Stage 1 when he came home from there. I like being one of a handful of Buicks wherever I go, too. Had Camaros and Vettes and the like and this one came to me at a very reasonable price.
I like it, and all old cars. Why will I stay with a Buick now that I've owned one (always had a special place in my heart for 70 A-bodies) and not switch to an Oldsmobile or Pontiac A-body? Because of the people HERE. I guess there's no answer up there for that, but I did buy it cheap, so I'll mark that one.
I'm a newbie to Buick's but the two things I liked were the lines of the cars. Kinda has a 'cool' feel to it rather than the Chevy's (and yes I like Chevy's too...got a 72 Blazer so I can't hate) and also the fact that they are not nearly as common as everything else people are trying to restore/purchase these days. Everyone seems to want a 60's Mustang, Camaro, Chevelle, GTO, Dodge/Plymouth...yet nobody is seeing these hidden jewels. Good. Keeps us from being common.
I used to like chevys, but everybody wants one. Fords leave me stranded every time. I always thought mopars were for tweekers, and now they're disgustingly expensive. Buicks are the only cars that you can still find a big block in. I pulled my 63 wildcat out of a wrecking yard and it runs beautifully. My dads 56 has been sitting outside for 40+ years and it still runs!
