Whose scrambling to get car ready for Salem?

  1. Alan, don't think for a minute that all that hasn't already bounced around in my brain over and over again... it's really more of a financial issue, for instance IF I threw a rod, or otherwise grenaded, the cost of repair or transport back to ND would be a very large $$$$ problem. Not quite the same as breaking down on a Sunday drive at home. :Smarty:

That being said, I'm still leaning to driving... :Dou:

My issues are: probable bad lifters and what sounds like bottom-end knock on hot startup for about 3-4 seconds until oil pressure comes up. Time and money are not on my side right now.

I gave up two months ago. Car's still in primer. Engine's still on the stand waiting on the timing cover. Went to pick up a trans today but it was a long tailshaft so I guess I'll have to rebuild one (more $$$). Suspension and brakes still need done. Found a new core support today but can't pick it up for two weeks. No interior. Yeh, at this rate I'll be lucky to make it next year. Maybe if I took two months off work...hmmm.

Ok Nah sayer's, drive your car to Salem and don't race it if you don't have a ride home but bring it anyway, we have the technogly to get you home no matter what! I took my GS350 to BG in 1986 I think with a new engine rebuild, raced it and last pass made some engine knocking noises, my brother's friend's dad that lived in BG said take it to this guy, he was unavailable, so we went looking for a way home, talked to a guy from the Flint area, to be let unknown wouldn't help. So I remembered a '68 Sportwagon being for sale on the 31W bybass, and we went and got it for $600, and then went to the Uhaul and got a tow bar for $50, to rent a UHaul truck was at least $450 to go to Flint, one way. So on Monday we got the Sportwagon, changed some tires, did a quick oil change and spark plugs and hooked the tow bar up to the GS350 and drove home. Had to take off work that Monday, and when I got to work on Tuesday was harassed big time about having to buy a car to get home, but drove that '68 Sportwagon for several years after! But it worked and later the sportwagon was used for a Cruise mobile with my whole family as it was a 3 seater to go to the Fireworks in Flint, and later sold to a friend that may still have it! RV, Have more BG and Buick stories than lemons, I think! R

I did not think I would be one of those to be trying to get my car ready, but lo and behold there the car sit in pieces. Tried to do some freshening up for the up coming AACA Grand National meet in 2 weeks and things have gone from bad to worst. Still waiting for my hood hinges to make it back for the west coast, toook the water pump off to fix a very small leak and touch up the motor and found a even bigger leak. Just ordered a new front cover from TA Performance, just in case I can not fix the one on the car. Still have issues with hoses leaking Scrambling to gather all the gaskets and hose clamps that I will need just in case the cover has to be changed. I know that for some of you this is not a lot of work but working 10hours a day will not leave enought time to get it all ready for AACA. I will make Salem. I have some good friends that will help out and hopefully this weekend can get alot of it done.

I am not really scrambling, however (I am scrambling for my own engine and transmission, which should be ready) I will be there running in the GSM class. I have been running an engine and transmission, leased from Finishline Motorsports, which I will be running in a 10.00 index at 3750lbs. in a Real Street race in Michigan this weekend.

    Thanks again guys:beer

well, my car is safely tucked away in columbus but my scramble will be getting off work. the day after i returned from the drive accross to norwalk, i bought another business so im double busy now. willl be on a red eye flight weds nite to cols, get the car out and wash it, drive it out to salem, do some tnt thurs and try to sleep for the next 3 days of fun. to make things worse, i just figured out there is an nsca race in columbus one week after the norwalk rain date, and my car fits in american muscle over there. since these are my only opportunitys to see all these cars east of the missippi, my flight time is gettin longer and longer this year!!
