We just got the GN out last night, running well but needs new tires and brakes on it. I feel bad, as i m having to work so much this summer, that in fact all i can afford is to go out to Salem on Sunday eliminations, will not be racing as the GN is simply a cruiser. If not done by then maybe drive the 225 electra. GN has only been driven 9k miles since we have owned it since 1988! Hopefully now that house for most part is done we can enjoy our cars. So who else is really scrambling with motors, getting chassis setups done and the like in preparation for Salem? Cant wait to see everyones cars out there! Good luck to all, also im only about an hour and 15min from track is some one wants to drop off car or stay over you can, just let me know!

Well we have a 70 GSx apart and spread over several counties in NC and one in Mn. If we make it everything will have to go just right . I will post some pics in the near future.

Got the motor back for the 76 8 days ago. Girdle moved the oil pan down so had to notch the crossmember. :Dou: Put engine back in, now the tie rod on the right side hits the oil pan. Pulled the engine back out. ::mad: Gotta modify the oil pan for clearance, set up new electric water pump and get it out for test and tune!:3gears:Should be ready in time.:bglasses:

I'm ready for it!! It looks like I'll have to drive it there from Long Island,
Now, if I just don't have any problems in the next 2 months everthing looks good.
I was out Sat. night and got into it with a 427 cobra, poor guy didn't know what hit him, His girlfriend was yelling out how NICE my car was:TU: :bglasses:

    I'm in...

With any luck I will be bringing my car home this weekend to get some miles on it before I drive it out to Salem in August. I plan on asking for a bunch of phone numbers before I go just in case!:beer

Just dropped my car off at the shop to hang the fiberglass doors and fenders, followed by painting them, of course. While I'd love to have all the body and paint work done now, it's just not in the budget right now. Gonna have to paint just the new pieces and hope the paint matches and that it looks ok for the time being. Of course, it's not as if it looked that good before!

Looks like I will finally get the engine done, and in time. First week of July we're off to the dyno, then into the car and then to the track by mid July for some shake down runs.

    Fiberglass parts???

Now Doug...... are you gonna make me hook up my little blue bottle

Actually.. I have a better idea. I will just take out things that really are not needed like say.......uh... the fire extinguisher.... uh... the seat belts... OH.. and dad really doesn't need to wear that helmet:Do No:

Its going to be fun Doug..... I will warn you in advance. This track is about a tenth slower than any other track in this area.

Rick.... that is great news that your engine is going together... Keep us posted on its progress!!!

Take Care and see you in Salem

    Hey John

I wouldn't write off Doug just yet. I heard from a good source:Brow: that he may have something in the works and no it's not the blue bottle:grin:

I have to say thanks to Doug. Just a few days ago Doug knew I needed the newer type roller lifters. So he went ahead called TA and ordered them and had them shipped to Stage 1 Auto and had it added to my bill. Then he calls me laughing telling me he loves to spend my money:laugh: Hey, what are friends for:laugh:

As with my engine the roller cam was re-ground for the heads and engine specs. at .050 the intake dur is 276. and exh. is 280. The lift is .710 on the exhaust and .708 on the intake. The heads are the TA Stage 1 TE's flow at .700 lift intake: 360 and exhaust .258, intake valves are 2.25 and the exhaust valves are 1.81 both 11/32 stems. The heads will be matched to TA's SP2A tall port intake.

The oiling system is from Steve Reynolds of SRE Performance, a complete Peterson oil/vac system with oil pan, valve covers breathers etc.

I am sticking to my goal of 750 hp on the dyno, I guess I'll know in a few days, keeping my fingers crossed...it's been way too long, I need that quarter mile fix real soon. Oh and I have the car down to 3,000 pounds flat with driver.

wooooohooooooo sounds like Rick is FINALLY going to be ready. Good deal Rick, it'll be nice to see you racing again instead of being the camera geek! psssst....camera geek is my job anyway!

    Can't wait til August :):):):)

Hey look... my heads are finnnnnnnaaaaallllly on an engine!

Big cam Rick.. you will have not problem making 750.. 4* bigger than Sweesy's 525 cam.. and that made 800..

    I predict 760 HP.

    660 torque.

    PS..

Watch the valve to piston clearance.. very carefully..

    P.S.S.

I want your intake back.... it was on George's motor when it made 800, dynoed it again last week, and it only made 790.. with the old style intake. I guessed that new one, and the old style one that we ported was about the same, but I guess it was not.. was going to hog on his old style intake some more, but just no time.. too many other projects in the works.

We also dropped back to 1.6 rockers.. for durabilty sake. I have a set of 1.65's on order with Mike, he does a very good job clearancing them and leaving lots of meat.. I will have a spare set in the trailer if you have any problems..

I also overhead oiled the center three mains this time, plugging the "flood" of oil out the bottom of the lifters.. no power gain, but 105 psi of oil pressure at 1500 is nice..

Two dominators and a tunnel ram are in Sweesy's future.. Heavy car needs more umph.. like 850 HP.

Not just the car! How about the"tow rig"
2 weeks weeks ago I order a trailer(I'll be dragging out the 65 and I know that 4.30 gear road trips were common when we were young+fearless ,right Rick?but were older +wiser now:laugh: , thus the trailer route.)Last week what started off as a"replace the exhaust donut job"on the tow vehicle(1988 Chev/Silverado) turned out to be a BIG project. I had to pull both of the exhaust manifolds, drill out,+tap what was left of the studs .One flang collar was in bad shape(paper thin)+ the flange on the pipe was real weak and had to replace it. So removed the piece of the "Y" pipe out of the cat. Now this week it's ready for assembly and since I'm right in there I'll be putting in wire set, cap, rotor, fanbelt, fuel filter,V.C. gaskets, battery+radiator(better now than on the side of the road!) Tires are soon to follow......Ohio in August or Bust!

Checked me oil.....Yep !!! Im ready :TU:  :Dou:

  19. I'm still mulling over the idea of driving the GS out to Salem... made it halfways across the country 3 years ago, but back then, the engine wasn't the noisy b**ch that it is today. Probably need a front end rebuild first too. :puzzled: :Do No: I think it would be a risky choice. :Dou:

Risky Business - Tom Cruise "Some times, you just gotta say....WTF"

You should have a good idea of whether or not your car will make it......its just a whole bunch of Sunday Drives.....all strung together !!

The First GSCA Nats I attended (1994) I drove the GS there without weatherstrip on the top, Instrument cluster in the trunk (NO Speedo, Gas guage...etc...) and the Grille (glued together the nite I left) drying in the backseat along with the slicks :Dou:  I was laying in the rain soaked gutter until 2am Splicing new wire into my Starter harness

....it was only 900 miles or so:spank: RAIN most of the way. I was sitting with a beach towel in my lap and would stop every hour or so to wring it out . I prolly would have been drier with the top down doing 75 mph

Installed the Grille the first nite, Dash the next day.....found a set of new Repro top weatherstrips in the swap meet.....and one of the Maryland guys (Eldon ??) installed and aligned it all for a 6-pack the enxt nite in the parking lot of the Holi-Dome :TU:

Dont do it if you dont have god vibes.....but nothing will bond you and your car better than a couple-hundred mile RoadTrip :Smarty:

Plus - you wont spend the 5 or so days there saying "Yeah....I Have a GS too.....its back home" - instead you just point to it
