I agree that it would be hard to see/measure in the real world. I'm just number crunching.

Well originally when I pulled the A/C there was now blower motor cover like they have now and while yes its a cleaner look I want it to look as if it never had A/C period, my personal preference. Since the car is all apart and will be getting panel replacement now is the time to patch in the firewall.

this means no heater. this means no window defrost. thsi means cary a rag with you so yo can wipe the moisture off the inside of your windshield....

I have a car that someone started to do that to... i put it back in. it didn't take that much to put it back. the vacuum diagranm will tell you where the lines go... it's not that big of deal... I have always looked upon cars that have been hacked on in this way as junk. if i were to buy one, i would figure in what it will take to fix the damage, to purchace such a car.

the system wast nver broke into and still has a charge... if it just needs topped off, i will put some r12 in it (i have my sources :Brow: ) if it needs more than that, i will evacuate and convert to 134. George has some great tips on his web site to do this.

Things that i think are ugly, i won't hide... i find ways to make them look neat and tidy. the above pictures will give ya an idea. I have yet to make my set up look this way... and is the last issue in the engine that needs addressed cosmetically. i will work wish that after i put a gauge on it. if i go to 134 i will be changing my lines anyway.

I hope you take the path of greater resistance here.

I wanted to keep mine functional and I am very glad I did. Black vinyl and 100* summers are a tough combination. It certainly clutters up the pass side of the engine compartment in my car but the drivers side is still pretty. I don't pull the belt for racing, just race it like it is sans air cleaner. I ran corrected 12.35s last time out and expect to improve this weekend.

Kind of depends on the need I guess and everybody has different needs. One thing to consider, most tracks do some form of bracket racing so the "number" isn't that important, consistency is. The ultimate low ET is more for bragging rights anyway and if I run within a couple of tenths of the guy that has no AC, no PS, no PB I pretty much figure I win :bglasses:

I run my factory A/C in the summer. But, I try not to jump on it hard 'cause I don't want to take the chance on the belt flying off! Maybe it would be OK, but better safe than sorry! Besides, too much drag on the motor!

This is great. Question, how did you guys get everything to fit o.k.. I just seem to have problems with the AC cover and the valve cover hitting when I was putting the engine in. Now that everything is in I could see there is room, but now there is not enough room to put the cover back on? See image.

TA covers will not clear the ac box. You will have to modify the box by notching it and refiberglassing it.

Thats what I kind of figured. Did you accomplish this cleanly? Just when you think your home free, whamo! Ya hit another snag, like your throttle linkage won't reach or your tranny line interfere with the headers, or your fan is off center so the old shroud don't work, or you have left over vacuum or wires, or your hood won't shut, or your drive shave is 1/8" too long, or you need a proportioning valve for the rear brakes, or you bend the blades on your alternator trying to put the old pulley on the new one, or your fuel line is routed funny cause of a new dual feed, or............... the list goes on and on, and you know what, I love it.

    Out.

I use weekenders serpintine belt setup and have shifted a few times at 6000 rpm with no problems throwing belts.

that is amazing! It looks like you have more clearance than I have? I have a 350 with double gaskets. Are you running the stock trans crossmember and motor mounts?

I tried to post last night with a better response... but...

stock type motor/trans mounts. stock crossmember. a while back a friend and i compared his gs 350 with his 350 with ta covers and my70 gs with 455 with ta cover. about the same width of motor. the real difference is in the length.

Thanks for the visuals. Looks like a 4" air element, stock hood or no. I also have a TA sp1 intake, looks tall with a double pumper? Hood may have issues.

    They fit just fine..

Tip--- install the motor without the TA valve covers on.

    Here's your AC example..
