who is using or has used the kb 107 cam with iron heads and what compression ratio did you have? how fast did you go with that cam?

The window rattler has been around for a long time. Lots of duration and low lift. Ran one in a 70 Stage 1 with a 4 speed and 3.64 gears. Great idle sound, wicked throttle response and pretty good power to 5,700 or so, maybe a little more. Ran 12.40's to 12.50's with mph in the 110 range if I remember. This was back in the late 70's. It was a great parking lot cam, anybody that heard the car coming into a drive-in took a second look.

I am planning on using one. I will be running it with iron heads and 10:1 compression. Hope to get it together soon. I ran into some issues on the rebuild and I did not want to take any chances. hopefully just a slight delay!

BAD idle, lots of power all concentrated between 3500 and 5500. Dies at 5700.The pull in that range is incredible.
118 has better idle and pulls to 6000.

You know that was years ago and don't really remember exact weight. It was stone stock, with 15 x 7 rallye's. Bucket seat, low option car, with power steering and power drum brakes. I'd guess somewhere in the 3,800 to 3,850 range w/o driver.

I had this cam in a 4100 pound 1976 olds cutlass. The engine was a 1973 455 with 1973 Stage 1 heads, M/T super scavenger headers, Ross flat top pistons(about 10.3 compression) performer intake, Holley 830 carb, turbo 350 trans, B&M super hole shot converter. 3.90 gears. The car ran 12.50's @ 108 mph with this combo, Changing to the Lunati SP-4(253*-266*) put the car in the 12.30's @ 110.

I ran it in a 3800 lb 4 speed car with 10.5 true compression 30 over 455. I went 12.0's all day long and ran a couple 11.90's on good days

My 67 GS auto 3775 lb car, 12.05 @ 112 mph, 9.5 comp, iron head, 107 cam with M/T headers, one of the best sounding street set ups I have heard. :3gears:

Usually need notched pistons due to the overlap, but a great cam for low rpm motors, typically flat after 5500 rpm.Was used as a old NHRA cheater cam where stock heads were the requirement which were dead after 5000 anyway so was designed with these parameters in mind,I've run 11's with it in a heavy car.The 107/118 is a little better rpm wise but not the unmistakeable sound of the 107,especially with a set of MT's.I've seen Mikes car go 11's with it and its awesome.

    Gary,
Which would you say is the best cam out of that series, the 107, the 112, or the 107/118?

you're quoting Poston cam #'s, for sound the 107 is best and will perform best between 3000-5000 but need notched pistons, and not much vacuum for brakes, the 107/118 has a wider lobe seperation at 118 but same duration #'s at .050"as the 107 .still great sound but may not need notches, but need to check piston to valve clearance,if the block and/or heads have'nt been milled excessively we've had it work w/o notches, enough vacuum for brakes ,the 112 is a 107 ground on a 112 lobe separation, revs higher and has more vacuum but could be marginal for brakes, still a bad sound, maybe able to use std pistons if check clearance carefully.
I guess it depends on what your after or willing to do,if you have notched pistons and want a baddd cam and the car is set up for 5200 rpms max the 107 would be great, no notches the 107/118 would still allow brakes ,have a bad sound and rev a little higher, power is similar, the 112 is closer to the 107 but vacuum could be an issue, again sounds bad,we had a 112 motor with 10.5to 1 compression in the 11.6's in a full weight GS with a 3000 converter.
Compression is also an issue, where are you at? you'd more compression with the 107.
I don't know if I helped or not, just too many variables.Another choice would be the 113 sold by both TA and poston, has a bad sounding idle ,doesn't need notches and has vacuum.

Will a 113 clear the pistons with a zero deck block (uncut heads)?

i put the cam in straight up and the exhaust valve cuts through the clay every time. i think it is just barley missing the piston. im going to try advancing it a little.

My 107 set up ran thru 6000 rpm shifting at 6200 rpm and still pulling. 4.10 gears, 28 in tall tire, auto, 3200 stall. B4B with a 750 dominator. (used a 1" spacer) it really liked that carb.
