Just wondering about this.....most of the quicker cars are running solid or roller cam, I would say. I've run 9.96 w/608B HYD....doubt it's the fastest....car's heavy (3700). Rick Miller (Stage 1 alum, HYD cam) ran a 9.82 at Norwalk but it's a lightened Regal. (3000 lbs) Bruce
YOU WIN!! Hey Bruce, I doubt that anyone has gone any faster than yourself with a hyd cam. If they have... WOW... that would not be easy!!! I tell others about your car regularly. Take Care
Thanks John! My point wasn't to blow my own horn.... Just like to put a feeler out there (here) to see what surfaces. I'll tell ya, I put this Xpipe exhaust on with welded UltraFlos and it idles like a puppy now compared to open exhaust. Why is that? Makes more torque at idle I guess! It's even rarer to see a BB Chevy with a HYD cam running quick but I figured ther'd be a good number of Buicks.....we'll see. Bruce
Bruce, That's a very quick run for a heavy car! My Top Stocker weighs about 3400-3450# and went a best of 9.81 with a .540 lift hydraulic cam, Wildcat and 850 Holley. With a B4B and no carb spacer, 850 Holley, same cam it went 9.93. Overall combinations are very critical, looks like you have got a good one. Tom
This is a Hyd flat tappet? Or is it a Hyd roller? Either way really impressive. Would you mind telling me about your combination? Thank You, Bart
Hey Bart: It's a 464 with JE 12-1s, Wildcat intake, 1050 Dom, 608B TA cam, mildlt ported Stage 2s (315/242), 4.10 gear (now 3.73), std valve body T400, 8 in 4200 ATI, .....and stock rods. What else would you like to know? Bruce
stock rods... hmmmm. Is it girdled or hardblocked? Internally or externally balanced? ________ VAPORITE VAPOR
Nope no girdle, I like to live on the wild side. I did stop using stock main cap bolts after I broke a block on the previous block. :TU: Balance job was done through Advanced Valve Service in Hyattstown, MD. Bub Reese in Hagerstown, MD did the balance. Crank was cracked by a slug that was too tight. Had them grind the crack and weld it. Haven't looked at it since installed 3 yrs ago. :eek2: Bruce
added more questions What is done to your rear suspension? What size vlaves are you running? What is your exhaust system configuration? What size tire? Have you made a pass with the 3.73 to compare to the 4.10? I just can't get over the times you are putting down. Thank you for the information, it is very much appreciated. Than You, Bart
Not the quickest,,but. Bruce, i am not on the quickest list, but with my iron stg-1 heads, Scott Brown Hydraulic cam, no girdle, no grout, stock rod-crank little 30 over motor in my 3500 lb 68 has run 10-60's @ 124mph...with 1.40 short time....on 9" tires. I am thinking of alum ..stg-1 heads on the next motor....but i also have to consider the mortgage, groceries, truck payment.....so it may be a while. :beer Running 9-s is a few thousand dollars a way!!! Nice job Bruce! :Comp:
Bruce: Where do you race around the Washington,DC area?? I would like to see you in action sometime in the new year. Thanks
Bart I've got the HR parts rear bar, made it leave alot milder in feel but same 60 fts., Edelbock uppers, 29.5 10.5 Phoenix, stock Stage 1 size valves. Have a 3 in X pipe but best with it is 10.14. Probably hurting the Stage 2 heads and/or need 3.5 in. No haven't run with the 3.73 but probably won't hurt on a good day at a quick track since I was 6700 in the lights. Could go to 28.5 tire to get some gear back...... C.....I run 75-80, Cecil, MIR and NSCA/PRO events. Bruce
