Funny that nobody is talking about top speed, which is (imho) telling how fast your car is.
Telling what it runs in the 1/4 mile is telling how quick it's reaching a certain speed. That's why the "kill stories" on this board always make me laugh

Good point. Since I'm out here in the wide open west, and "quick" is nice but fast is nicer, I'm shooting for a long-legged rear end for the fast, and a 200-R4's deeper low gears for the quick. With the 455 project (it's coming together!), I should be able to have my cake and eat it, too!

After all, I *need* to be able to go from Abilene to Stephenville (100 miles) in 45 minutes... :Brow:

    otter It'll be done someday.

1969 Electra back in 1983 it turned over 100,000 miles at Union Grove Raceway. With 2 cracked pistons and 4 skinny bias ply tires it went 16.78 completely stock. Removed the aircleaner assembly and went 16.52 Uncorked the y-pipe and went 16.12 Held it in low a little longer, shifting by ear with no tach it went 15.78 @ 94mph. Rear gears 2.78:1 I had it weighed at the dump and it came up 5,650 lbs with driver. At the time I only weighed 140lbs.
Over the next couple years I made some changes to it and in the early 1990s I was beating Grand Nationals and T-Types street racing in Milwaukee but I never got it to the track to officially time it again.
I have a copy of the Buick News from Kenne-Bell dated May 1986 that has Scott Guadagno's 1970 Electra on the back cover. At that time he was running 12.6 @ 109 on the motor and 11.7 @117 on Nitrous. This was a fully loaded Electra with the A/C still intact, 5600 lbs running factory 5 spoke wheels.
More useless trivia: I have a copy of a Dec 1968 Motor Trend test of the 68 wildcat showing 16.3 @85.3 was stock brand new.

    That's pretty impressive...

This is from an article back in 71' Interesting to see the final gear only go to 100 mph @ 3800 ? Also they say it's a standard engine with 315 hp?

thats the right bhp for 71 - more impressively did you notice the stopping distances from 60? theres not many cars today that can match that!

Man, that makes me feel even better about my little old 350, keeping up with the 455's. No headers, etc, just a '70 GS-spec 350 w/ HEI. Woo Hoo!

From a standing start is tough for a yacht... I prefer the 70-140 dash :Brow: I've already added 15mph in the time it takes most cars to downshift...

Maybe I just bumped someone.. I took it to the track on Sat. got a 17.21@78.42. Well, not like the whole world is watching, but I shaved it down from 18.42. I got what I wanted, a second off from the previous time, so I'm happy. This place is at 2710ft. and according to their site lacr.net you can recalculate your time and speed to what it wuld have been at sea level by 3%, so it will be interesting to have a go at a different track at some point. I recurved the HEI the day before I went, but I wasn't sure about it, so it was all put back to stock before I left on Sat. I'll have to fiddle with it a bit more until I get it right. I don't know if GF managed to get any good pics, we'll have to wait and see.

These are the times for Sat.

    Run Reaction Time Mph

    1 .421 17.312 78.229
    2 .295 17.338 78.501
    3 .226 18.997 76.465 tried the smaller 255/60/15 tires, just spun..
    4 .153 17.791 77.520 one more try..
    5 .144 17.423 78.080 back to the bigger 235/75/15
    6 .210 17.209 78.420 went good.. beat a new cobalt xxx too.ha ha.
    7 .116 17.365 77.496 gf in car.
    8 .107 17.267 77.971 Now you know you won't go any faster.
    9 .003 17.884 78.483
    10 .202 17.232 78.032
11 .356 17.530 78.212 Set the timing at 8 instead of 6 just to try.

I'm happy I managed to improve during the day, so you don't put in your best run first and then you never catch it. Next time will be in Vegas in October probably.
