Since this thread is almost three years old. He porbably already got what she wanted. By the way he hasn't posted on the board in over 4 months... and to say a boattail is ugly, FOR SHAME! It is probably one of the most unique cars ever built and rare. The 65's are nice and if you are into Buicks you can appreciate them, but to the average person, there is nothing to really set it apart from other cars of that era. (Other than the headlights.)
for some board member info 71 was the first year they started SAE horse power so 71 72 and 73 all compared the same way with 71 having the most horse power about 315 to 330 on GS model I believe 72&73 has215 (standard) &260 for GS model because of all the emission regs , and 73 if i,m not mistaking has about 215 SAE horse power that,s why you want 71 ,70 has smaller oil passage but here in U.S.A in my state WA since the car is to old for emission control, you can change the ENG on 72 or 73 and put stronger 71 or you can even use forged piston and go 10 to 1 or even 12 to 1 and if you have money which I don,t a twin turbo would be nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://www.buick-riviera.com/pictures/avi/0to60riv.avi here is 0-60 in 8.4 sec enjoy , that would be 71 of course!!!!!!
In 1971, the HP ratings were published in both SAE Net H.P. and gross H.P., the 315 H.P. (standard)/330 (GS) numbers were gross H.P.. I do not have the Net HP numbers for the 71 but I remember they are very close to the 72. I remember that the large 71 sales brochures I have seen had both ratings (at least canadian brochures).
[MINI HIJACK MODE:ON] Exqueeze me? Ever? Well OK I'll give you that. But the 68 is a close second... :bglasses: [MINI HIJACK MODE: OFF]
Sorry, but this Dutch '71 GS couldn't keep up with my heavier '73. Not in a 0-96 km sprint and certainly (what's even more important) not on top speed :3gears: (And we both run on LPG, where my tank is even 40 kilos heavier)
I can't vote either way. They're all great. That's why I bought one of each. 1st was a '64, then, a '71 GS, and finally a '68.
Not even a fair question, Boattails are like it or hate it cars. Personally I hate it, its redeeming qualities are 455 power, parts interchangability with GM finally, some pretty neat options. Bad stuff.... um.... everything about the car I didn't just mention... just kidding I just don't like'm. And I love 65's, hands down get a 65, only bad thing is the nailhead isn't well supported and neither is the suspension or rearend. I'm hoping to get a 65, maybe GS, and put my turbo6 in it.
How bout a 65 Barracuda or Corvette rear end on the 65 Riv? I voted 71-73 of course. I love the arrogant styling. It was the last of the great American cars. As far as the 65 I never really liked the tail lights. I think a 63-64 with a 65 front end would be my ideal first gen Riv. I like the interior of my 71. The controls are all easy to reach, and the burnished metal is really cool.
I vote for the one that has this engine. :TU: edit: I guess the pic didn't go with the quote...it was the dual quad Nailhead.
While the early 63 models did have a 120 MPH speedo, later ones had the 140 MPH speedo (other changes that occured during the 63 model year, the aluminium trim on the dash and the spare tire was relocated). The 65 Riv also had a 140 MPH speedo but the background was black instead of silver as it was in 63-64. In the 66-67 Rivs, the speedos were graduated to 145 MPH.
C'mon Kia! Don't SCARE the guy off! 71-73's all had the same engine (compression ratio wise). The difference in the 71 vs the 72-73 in the engine is in the Power Steering Acc'y mount. 72-73 had an air pump (ugh), 71 didn't. 71's also had those louvers in the trunk. (I always worried about rust in them). 72's had the best damn grille. Throw in the bumper guards, and I swear to you, the 72 shoulda been a stand-in for that 90's Firebird eat a ricer commercial... That was original acrylic lacquer: Color is Code "N" and called "Burgundy Mist". Car is long gone. She was a pretty thing but had a big drinkin' problem. N2 (Burgundy Mist with Black Vinyl Top) and a 604 White interior. I swear when it went down the street one time a guy in a wheelchair jumped up so he could see her sweet rear as she passed by. I see you have an 85 Lesabre. Nice car, too. Bought one new in 85 ( Everybody cries about the 307 but it was A-OK with me) . It was darker but close to the same color. Buick called it "Dark Red" on that one. Maroon should be the official Buick color. Here's another color shot.. Steve
