  1. Okay the wife & I are trying to decide on the next Buick we add to our collection . We both agree its gonna be a Riviera, however my wife wants a 71-73 "boattail " Riv , and I want a 65 Riviera . If you were given the choice which Riviera would you buy ? And why would you choose it over the other one?

The 65. I think it's what a Riv should be, especially the GS version. I also like the dash layout and the chrome on the interior of the 65. The 71-73's interiors kind of sucked compared to the 65.

The 71-73's just got too damn big.

I grew up with the 71 and 72 Rivs, and I just felt that the 65 was a much better effort on Buick's part. I got a lot of rude comments about my boattail Rivs, but you rarely hear anything bad about the 65 Rivs.

I also think that if any repro parts are ever made, they would be made for the 65 first.

A guy looking at my 71 Riv:

Remark: "That's the ugliest Oldsmobile I've ever seen."

My reply: It's not an Oldsmobile, it's the 1971 Corvette 5-seat prototype."

    Remark: "HUH?"

  6. '71buickg.s.

'71buickg.s. a dark and stormy night..

My vote goes to the '65. I believe I read many years ago that the '65 Riv. was voted the best looking car in 1965. I have always liked thier look. Conversely I never liked the boatail look of the Riv. Not even when a friend of mine's dad brought one home off the showroom floor way back when.

    My obvious choice...

I would go for the 65 with the dual quad engine of course (duh, I'm somewhat biased  ) but in the in intrest of family unity I would probably cave in and get whatever made wifey happy. :spank:

the `65 no doubt about it,the clambshells, interior, the car is awesome, great style to it,the "boat"tail rivies are just too big and ugly.

    Thanks

After reading your Hurst saga all I can say is WOW! :eek2:

I commend your restraint since I might have been inclined to cause his place to have one big "fire sale" If all that were to happen to me. :stmad:

Just out of curiosity, why not talk the wife into taking the funds you're planning on shelling out for a Riviera project and pump them into finishing off your Hurst once and for all? :Do No:

  10. Ive thought about the "Fire Sale" but it wouldnt do any good . First off I would be the "prime suspect" and secondly hes heavily insured and all I would accomplish would be giving him a "new shop" to rip people off in .

    Madcat455 Need..more... AMMO!!!

Yeah.. Dan, Your doing the right thing. About the only thing you can do is give this guy a bad rep. buy word of mouth.

There was a person around here that had an oil change shop blow his motor so he drove around for a while with a big pink sign in his window telling people what happend. That shop is under New ownership now:Brow:

I thought about doing the same thing when Wallgreens decided that my 2yr old daughter needed Prozac instead of what the doctor prescribed. :af: :af: :af:

Now adays... aside from legal action the only recourse that seems to do anything is bad mouthing to everybody you see. We have a news show on local TV here that gives prime time air to stuff like that... its a riot to see the news guy chase the sly owners around cause they don't want to be on TV...lol.:blast:

Sorry about your loss man... thats gotta be tough.

    Good luck.

BTW... I kinda like the 72-73's.. but might change my mind if I actually seen a 65 up close and personal. :TU:

  12. My wife will appreciate your vote Madcat  Shes a little disappointed about how the poll is turning out .

Dual ... Ithink the car may be a little beyond my capabilities and the money it would cost to let someone else do it is a little on the steep side . However in a few years this situation could change as both my wife and me are looking to better our situations employment wise ... so maybe in the future . I cant give up on it , I just have to be patient.

  13. GSXMEN

    GSXMEN Got Jesus?

It's pretty tough to compare the style of the 65 Rivs to the 'boattails'!! The 65's win hands down!!:TU: Both inside and out!!

Don't mean to knock the 'boattails'...cause we've all probably seen some that were done up pretty cool! One 'plus' in their favor - standard 455!! That's not exactly a 'bad' thing!!:Brow:

Either way you end up going....you should wind up with a nice cruiser!:bglasses:

I wouldn't want to be in your shoes to have to make this decision.

I have a 71 Boatail on the site which may help you to decide...

    71 Buick Riviera .

Here's a thumbnail off the site...
