I'm a Process Technician in an automotive glass plant. We're mainly into the heavy truck/bus/ RV markets and some niche areas. We produce all the Viper-Prowler Windshields and just ramped up on the Chevy SSR(which I just came home from working on) and Ford GT. We recently started producing tempered side lites and we are also making the tempered/ laminated sidelights for the Buick Ranier and others to come. We still make lots of replacement widshield from the 70's and up.
I'm on a layoff after 11 years as an engineer in an optics coating lab. Interesting technology....known as 'Physical Vapor Deposition' (PVD) , and 'Thin-Film Coatings'.... Bulk of our business was metallic-mirror coatings (aluminum or gold), and anti-reflection coatings. We coated everything from fiber optics to telescope lenses, and even some mirrors used in Pontiac heads-up-displays. For now, I'm taking some time off, do some traveling, getting caught up with some project cars that have been sitting for 10 years, and trying to figure out what I want to do next....
