Let's say you sold something of value to a member.

And then you never received the money. Several reminders and no action. At some point, you just give up because it isn't your responsibility to chase your money, even though you really could use the money over a year later.

What would you call this person?

But then you are motivated because you assured a friend that it was alright to lend something of value to this person for his passion project because he's trustworthy. Yet this person has yet to make an effort to return the things he has borrowed over a year (two?) later.

Now, what would you call this person?

I've never met this person, but I imagine he's a nice guy in real life. However, that's not what I want to call this person.

The person is a thief. However, you are responsible to protect your money, nobody else is looking out for you.

I would feel guilty for recommending someone who never paid me back

He lied about paying you, a liar is a liar. Not paying an agreed amount makes him a thief also.

I'd say he's just a plain old lying thief. If he's on here, reading this, I hope he wakes up from his selfish ways and makes thing right. I kind of doubt he will though as he may feel he did no wrong, no conscience. In which case I'd out his name on here to protect anyone else being ripped off.

what does he say when you ask him about it? If he says F off, then you know what he is. Otherwise maybe he is just out of sight out of mind procrastinator type. I would contact him, be nice and see what he has to say. Also Im confused is this someone you sold something to or someone that a friend of yours loaned something to? What were the agreed terms if any? Sometimes there are misunderstandings when someone sells or loans you something. Sometimes they try to come accross like here take it its no big deal, ya just give me what you want for it whenever , i never use it .. blah blah blah. Need more info for accurate determination.

I would contact him and tell him (politely, but firmly) to pay up and return the borrowed stuff to your friend, or you will post his name here - and on any other forums that you frequent. If what you post is true, it's not slander or defamation and you can't be sued.

  14. There was another similar post a month or two ago where a well known Buick person was sold a NOS 66 tail panel and was supposed to pay for it but kept stalling and making excuses. finally the victim posted a very similar post to yours and the deadbeat finally paid to keep from having his name outed. hopefully this thread has the same results for you Diego.

"At some point, you just give up because it isn't your responsibility to chase your money, even though you really could use the money over a year later."

It is your (and my) responsibility to chase your money, your property, your name, your kids, your dog etc., and to guard against thieves and those who lie to you.

Do not let such people "off" without making the demand and calling them a thief and a liar, for it allows or encourages them to do so to others.

Hope you recover what is rightfully yours.

    :)

It's been awhile, but the intention is always there. I simply never receive anything in the mail.

If that was the case, I would have named him here over a year ago.

I don't wish to name him publicly, for better or worse.

I agree, but how many times do I need to remind him? At some point, it becomes absurd.

A friend has early 1980s pics of the GS Nats, and this person borrowed the negatives. I forgot how said person knew about them, but I brought the two together for a transaction that was to be returned.

If it were me, I'd be keeping the owner of the negatives in the loop, but that's how I am.

ya I would call the guy and say you need the negatives back and Im coming over for the negatives and be very nice about it. Then never lend him anything again. If you get snappy with him he may not ever give them back. Crazy isnt it. I know people like that. They do something wrong to you and then get mad at you when you object. But I would be nice but urgent that you get them back and then go get them. Is he local or was this done through the mail ?

I've been pleasant the whole time and I will continue to be. And, no, it's 2000 miles away.
