If it has been that long, I would be surprised if you ever saw your money and if your friend ever saw his negatives again. But for your sake, I hope I am wrong.

I’ve got to understand this a little better...

    1. How do you sell something to someone and not get the money before parting with the item?

It seems to me that if you transfer an item to someone without collecting the money in advance or at the time of the exchange you are not selling the part, you’re giving the part to them. Does anyone buy an item without first paying for it?

    2. “At some point you just give up because it isn’t your responsibility to chase your money, even though you could really use the money over a year later”.

I’ve got to agree with Michael (TrunkMonkey) on this one. If it’s not your responsibility to chase a debt owed to you, whose responsibility is it? Exactly who is supposed to get this for you? Is this a philosophy that one would use in their business and expect to be successful?

The deal sounds like a difference of opinion where the receiver appears to consider this was a gift since no money had to exchange hands when he took possession. This was reinforced when collecting the money was not shown to be a big priority. The way that this has been presented I don’t know if one could fairly call the guy a thief. It seems the transaction was poorly executed and followed up on. After having been contacted for payment the receiver probably should have returned the item or paid for it but, again, if it was his original understanding that it was a gift it could go in his favor. Beyond that, after such an experience, how or why would you recommend this person to a friend as trustworthy?

    1. Do you kinda "know" someone here on this forum from multiple interactions? Would you make a transaction with this person and simply send an item in good faith with the idea the money was also being sent in good faith?

    2. Sometimes it gets tiring asking 5 times or so for my money. Sometimes people will cut their losses (as my friend who lent him the images has done – not even a email reminder from him). I myself have simply decided to resort to this manner because, sorry, at this point it is not my responsibility to make sure the terms of the transaction have been upheld.

I also don't see how you think you can fill in the blanks of what you don't know and arrive at the conclusion in which you've arrived – there's nothing wrong that I have done except be trusting to a member of V8Buick. This ain't eBay – this is two (or three) gentlemen shaking hands.

2000 miles. wow. Ultimately you vouched for the guy and he is what he is so you may have to offer the guy money to get your friends negatives back and then count it as your loss. Start with $100 bucks payable when you receive them of course and when you receive them you can decide if you want to pay him or drag your heels for a while or never pay him or pay him $5 instead. ( he doesnt read this board does he? if so youve lost the element of surprise).

I don't owe my friend. It has value but nothing that he would accept from me. Besides, why make it a game?

And, yes, the person in question is a member here. I wouldn't make this post otherwise.

Simple. You should call this person his name.

If the facts you have posted in this thread are true, you should state them again in the Feedback section along with his name in the title of the thread. That's exactly what the feedback section is for, and you could prevent this from happening again to someone else. Who knows, you may get your money and negatives back. Not telling others who he is makes it look like you just want attention for being ripped off and don't really want restitution. I'm not trying to be harsh, but why else would you start this thread asking what to call him?

A mans name and reputation should mean more to him than the cost of some car parts and/or photograph negatives. If not, then I guess that's a decision he must make after he realizes he has been identified. Then he can either tell his story and defend his actions, clear this up with you, or let his name be tarnished.

I would call him by his name.

    No, I don't think you're being harsh.

But why else would I start this thread?

    Social pressure.

In any case, I was not aware of the Feedback forum. I will do it there. Thank you!

Seems like you would say what you sold this person, who it is, and that is has been X number of time. That would probably get you paid.

Apparently you haven't read the last few posts. Go to the Feedback forum.

I did, but it's not well publicized there. Unless someone clicks on this thread, and reads all of it, and then finds that forum???

I'll post something for you right on the front page.
