A 1957 Mercedes 190. Back in Norway those days, (1970), to own a Merc was suppose to be pretty cool, all the girls where impressed untill they saw it. No bumpers, brush painted silver metalic, work on it all evenings of the week, then try to cruise in the week-end. Normally pushed or towed home on Sunday. Last seen in a junk yard compressed into a veeeeeeery small box. Can remember using the fabric headliner for defrosting the windows. As the headliner disapeared fantastic bottle openers appeared in the steel profiles behind. I can still recall the sound of the corks making their way down to the main frame. :beer
I'm glad this has gotten so many replied and I loved reading what all of your first cars were! WTG! :TU:
It Was A Chevelle SS My first was a 1972 Chevelle SS 402.It was Forrest Green with White Stripes.Non-AC,bench seat, with T-400 auto on the column. It did have cowl induction & hood pins though.Pretty cool car for a 16 year old.My dad bought for me for $1200.00 in `78,he bought me & my 2 brothers each our first car,but he didn't buy any of my 3 sisters their first car-He always said the boys worked really hard on the farm & he would buy us our first car.Funny thing was my sisters were usually out there as well-go figure! Anyway back to the Chevelle,i was no saint as a teenager wound up totalling the car out on the way back from the beer joint when i was 17.A telephone pole jumped out in front of me:eek2: Fotunately neither me or my passenger were hurt in that wreck. I wish i had that car to part out now.The engine is still going strong,my dad put it in his `81 chevy 4-wheel drive truck-his farm truck! I confess i still have a soft spot for the 70-72 Chevelle SS's.
Wow.. My first was a '55 Chevy wagon that's been hovering around our family since '69. Sometimes in a back yard, sometimes on the street... I still have it in the garage getting a complete rebuild. I also grew up in a '71 Skylark that I owned for a few years before I had to let her go [grumble]... My favorites? I like gassers. Willys, Austin, '55 Chevy, but add into that mix 70-71 Buicks and a small handful of other muscle cars like the '69 Mopar B-bodies and 70 Cudas and Challengers.
my first car was a 1963 Mercury Comet Convertible , rust , rust and more rust red w/ black top , paid 1500 for it and sold it for 1400 a year later ,
1968 Fiat 850 - breadbox style semi-automatic stick on floor, clutch engaged in handle could shift through gears or just start off in 3rd leaf spring suspension 30+ miles to the gallon when there were gas lines
My first car was a 1968 Opel Kadett station wagen. The car had 148,000 when I bought it for $275.00. It had already dropped a rod through the oil pan once before I bought it and had been repaired. The engine knocked like crazy. I drove it for a year and it quit on me the weekend I got married to my first wife. Should have seen it as an omen! My latest and favorite conquest is my '67 GS. Picture attached.
first car Believe it or not...my first car was a 1970 Buick gsX. I was 16 yrs old and cruising in my mom's van....and about 3 blocks from my house i saw this big yellow car sitting in a front yard....i wheeled over there and it had the FOR SALE sign in the window. I stopped...got out...looked the car over....and proceded to knock on the door. A woman of about 75-80 yrs old answered. The car was her sons and it had been in her garage for 10 years and she got tired of seeing it....so she (or a friend, not sure if granny could handle a monster 455/4 speed) drove it into the front yard THAT DAY. She said i was the first one to ask about it. I asked her how much...and most of you probably wont believe this....but i only paid 1500 bucks for an original saturn yellow, 4 speed gsX. It wasnt in the best of shape...it needed some interior work, needed all new tires...the engine didnt run so well, and it needed some body work and paint, but it ran and drove. I had been saving money since i was about 14 and i knew i had enough...so i asked her to hold it for me (all i had was 40 dollars in my pocket) and she said that was fine. She took the sign out of it and the rest is history. This was back in 1998 i believe. Most of you probably wont believe this story, but it is true. I sold the car before i went to college for about 10k.....biggest mistake of my life. I loved that rare buford.
My first-first car was a '72 Hillman Avenger (Sold in the USA as a PLymouth Cricket I think). I never drove it. I paid 25 for it and messed about at doing it up when I was like 14. Some buddies and I decided to fix up a '76 Honda Civic. Nothing much came of it. My forst real project was a Morris Minor, but my dad made me get rid of it. But I learned to weld and all sorts doing that car. Someone else finished the resto on it at least. I sold it them for 80 and they sold it for 3000 finished... :af: My first real driver was a 1979 Opel Kadett. It was my Mum's old car and he gave it me as a bribe to get rid of the Morris project when I passed my test. Next up I had a '76 Ford Capri which was my Grandads and I got when he passed away. I still have this car, although its been laid up "pending" since about '91 I had a whole lot of Vauxhall cars, a fair few more Capris and a few Ford Cortinas, Rovers, Audis, more Morris Minors... American cars are difficult to get in good shape over here, and when they are, they are expensive. Took me a long time to liove the dream and get my '66 Buick LeSabre. Nearly couldn't get it, I had to borrow 400 off my girlfriend to get to the sellers "lowest possible" price (after an hour or haggling!) Luckily I got the car and married my girlfriend so it all worked out OK in the end. I still have the Buick. I also have had a couple of Plymouth Fury's (I have a '68 Sport Fury Coupe at the moment as well as a few other toys). I think I've had 36 cars now. well, thats me.
