Did you check and see if the float bowl as full? Are you saying that you could feel air escaping from the corner of the intake? That's very strange.

Buick rockers are not adjustable. If the driver's side rocker shafts are not seated all the way down that will cause issues, otherwise they are not adjustable. Plug the PCV vacuum port, right now. Don't use any towels. Eliminate all vacuum loss until this is resolved.

No i didnt check the float bowl. Im gunna do that when i get back on it, which will have to be wed cuz i work tom. I couldnt necessarily feel the air coming out from there, but the most smoke was there and i could tell that the rubber seal corner wasnt all the way in place.

And that is what i meant, checking to see if they are seated right. As for the PCV, when i plugged it i didnt see any noise diffeerence then when it was hooked up. But eliminating the leak around the PCV grommet changed the idle completely.

did you run the rtv bead around the water ports?? lots of white smoke could also be coolant burning.........check your plugs and tell us what the insulators look like

the first thing you need to do is address ALL of your vacuum leaks. most if not all of your poor running / high idle/ low idle / stalling etc. is caused by this.

Chris pointed out the EGR hole in the #5 intake runner - did you do anything to block this ?

You'll need a new grommet for the pcv to seal properly

forget about timing and carb adjustments for now as long as it runs ... and dont run it for too long.

One thing at a time, and fix first what you know needs fixing before chasing after the unknowns. Some of them may take care of themself when the known problems are fixed.

Do you have an oil pressure gauge ?

Get a GOOD oil pressure gauge, best money you can ever spend on your car.

And buy a tee at the parts store so you can keep your oil pressure warning light, too.

Good point, there is no point to set a carb if you have vac leaks.... you will have an easier time bailing out the titanic with a bucket than you will setting a carb when you have vac leaks.....ie when the engine warms and metals expand the leaks could get smaller, now your carb is off again.....

I did rtv around the water ports

Ok sounds good. As for the new pcv grommet, does the intake have to be off to put it in? And is the 4bbl grommet supposed to be bigger than the 2bbl one? cuz otherwise i wouldnt know why that one is leaking.

And when you say oil pressure gauge and tee, you are saying install one into the actual car?

And the other potential vac leak would be the rear rubber intake seal. Would i have to pull the intake to adjust that too? Or could i possibly loosen the intake bolts and try to easy it in there?

Cuz i reeeeeeaaaallly dont wanna take the intake back off

Brian, I used the SMP pcv grommet #GV10, I needed to trim it a bit cause the groove was a bit thin, but it works great. As for your valley end gaskets, mine were almost a snap fit, to the point i needed to apply some force to get it to sit into place. If you loosen the intake enough to get it to slip in, I think you might be taking a chance at having coolant and air leaks due to breaking the seal between the heads and intake. I am sure you will get some other opinions on this, but it was just my $.02

How does the pcv grommet go in?

My valley end gaskets were kinda snap in place too so i dont know if that rubber lip inside the block is over the edge or if it is sitting up on top. All i know is that that corner sticks out a little far, so im thinking i might be able to get it to go in that little bit

I just put some oil on the bottom and it slipped it...but be careful not to drop it inside.... if you can get a mirror back there, grab a few pics

Did you plug the big EGR hole on the left side of the intake?

And ill check that one chris

EDIT: Advance website says that they have it. So ill go up there tomorrow and see if they have it :TU:

do you not have the egr stuff for it? if not, you need to fabricate block off plates and gaskets. for the gaskets you can get the gaskets that are listed in the book for the egr stuff, or make them using metal core gasket paper

You can make a EGR cover pretty easily, they might even sell them at someplace like Advance or OReillys.

    Ok...so i might have made a BIG mistake... :(

I started working on the buick after school. I went to Advance and got a nex pcv grommet. Thanks Chris, it was the #42056. It was a tight fit, but I imagine it would be hard to push it all the way through. I oiled the bottom, and pushed half in with my thumb. Then the other side was way out so i used a screwdriver to help push the other side in. GREAT fit. But i had to be careful putting the pcv valve in, becuz it was such a tight fit that it wanted to push the grommet in with it. But i got it in.

Then on to my rear rubber valley end seal. I decided to somewhat loosen the intake so i could slide the rubber seal in a little. Im guessing that was a DUMB idea. Cuz i then heard a trickle down the back. So then i realize....the WATER PORTS....ANTIFREEZE is in the intake, thus loosening the intake would cause some to some out...SOOO im guessing antifreeze/water could have gotten into the engine/oil. Am i screwed over or can i drain both the antifreeze and oil, and then do the intake all over again? I didnt see any sign of antifreeze in the oil, but the antifreeze is watered down so i imagine it would be hard to see :Do No:
