What do you do when they want too much shipping and HANDLING?

Won a used fuel injector cleaning setup on EBAY and then contacted seller for shipping cost and he wants $54! Can't weigh more than a few pounds. I guess he's screwing me on the HANDLING part........

$54...ouch! I guess the seller wasn't happy with the final price, so he made it up on the S&H. Maybe you could ask him to box it and ship freight collect?

Either his/her scale is off big time, or its something that they consider fragile or odd size(UPS and USPS really rip you off on what they consider "oversize"). Email me him/her back, maybe its a typo or something. If its not--man that is a gouge :jd:

    That's crazy!

    Here's another for you

One of my Christmas gifts to my girlfriend requires I get a few small pieces from a variety of sources to assemble it. One piece I can't find locally, so I checked the web. I found it for $1.79. It weighs 3 ounces.
    Shipping? $7.99

Shipping is more than I paid for the item!

first I would nicely ask the seller why so much for S&H.
If S&H price is not specified in the auction, then I would refuse and offer bad feedback if he won't come down.

If S&H is specified, you are stuck as you already agreed to the terms. however, that does't mean you can't warn others to watch for exhorbitant S&H charges when you leave feedback.

What did the auction state regarding shipping?

The ad said cost would be determined.....didn't say anything about "handling".

I could see $20 even $25 tops but not $54! Lots of typos in the ad I guess I should have known better.

If I get into a feedback pissing match it can hurt me though I am just the innocent buyer as happened before with an unquestionably used timing set sold as new that I got off EBAY. And he was/is a BPG member!

First lesson learned. Never bid on anything on ebay unless you know how much the shipping is going to cost you when you win.

All you can do now is sob and ask him if he can meet you halfway. It's up to you as the bidder to iron that stuff out before the auction closes or better yet, before you bid. Good luck though.

I did email the person before I won but non-comunicado. Now I guess I know why.
Shipping is one thing but "handling" is a variable. I think it should be eliminated except as specified for LARGE items only.

Still no communication when I asked why $54.
Lots of good people on EBAY but some are the species:

See if you could get a fellow buick member to pick it up and mail it to you? Where is it located at?

    That's a good idea!

I woul refuse to buy the item. you can comment on any negative feedback specifying his unspecified and exhorbitant handling fee, which you requested before the auction with no reply.

This guy seems crooked enough he may not even ship the item at all!

My opinion of this, tell him to ram the injector set up, then in feed back simply explain the extra $54.00 the meat ball tried to screw you for!

Ebay specifically prohibits low ball pricing then making up the diff in the shipping charged. I had a guy that wanted to sell what amounted to a Harbor Freight Manual tire changer for about $25, then wanted over $90 for shipping! Basically the guy was trying to avoid listing and seller fees by putting the bulk of the price in the shipping. Turned the loser in to Ebay customer service. Not much they can do however since the dirtball just closed that account and opened another.

You might let the gouger know that if he can't / won't be reasonable on the shipping and handling, it will result in bad feedback and you providing the ebay cops with all of the info.

Listen to this: the guy says if it costs less than $54 to ship he will refund me the difference (yeah right). So I check UPS and calcullate from Everett, WA to Mount Airy, MD for 16 lbs. as he says it weighs. Comes up $16.60. So, I tell him I'll give him $25 (generous I'd say). Let's see what he says to that. Anyone out near Everett, WA?

    Bruce,
Don't know exactly what a fuel injector cleaning set-up is at this moment but anything that has/had gas/flammable liquids in a closed space/container is considered explosives and will double or triple the charges. Now, you know why is costs $7 to ship a can of spray paint/dye that costs $7-9 for a 12-16 oz spray can.
