Fresh from the show an hour ago, I gotta say that Tony Iommi is amazing! The opening act ("Down") was made up of members of Pantera and IHG and COC. They sucked and stooped to swearing to get reactions from the crowd, but Dio & Co were all class. I can't say I know of many metal/hard rock guitarists that play with the soul and passion of Iommi. He was like a blues player the way he played from the heart. Amazing 2 minute solo with no effects. And, for a 60 somthing year old little bloke, Dio has a MASSIVE voice. And Geezer Butler was obviously getting paid $/notes played. Busiest bass player ever!
    Ready for Motorhead in October.......

Pantera never did impress me. sorry to hear that CoC members are off doing something else. guess that means there's not likely to be much more from them.

That evokes an image of you with your arms crossed, tapping your foot just like Rockford when you stop moving him:

nice. Robin Trower is evidently planning a 2008 tour, to start in the US in Florida in January. he's asking for fan requests for venues and such. i'm thinking i need to do this thing:

Coincidence? The guy I'm playing with in Fl. has opened for Trower on occasion and I have to learn his version of "Rock me Baby" for the show.

I heard that Jimi Hendrix said that Billy Gibbons from ZZ top & Terry Kath from Chicago were the best guitarists he'd heard. What about Leslie West?

It's an urban legend, and it could be true. If it is, I think Hendrix said Billy Gibbons was a good up-and-coming guitarist, to make a distinction between that and "best guitarist he's heard." I have a copy of the Moving Sidewalks' album and it sounds like Billy's got a Jimi fetish.

For a Texan in that era, however, my money's on Johnny Winter. :D

Are you frickin kidding me?!?!?!?!?!? Jack White at NUMBER 17!!!! Randy Rhoads (GOD!!) and Eddie Van Halen...there wayy better than him. Randy put so much soul into his much and same goes for Eddie. And Slash didnt even make the list!! That is the most inaccurate list EVER!

    My faves:

    Randy Rhoads
    Slash
    Brian May
    James Hetfield
    Eddie Van Halen
    Alexi Laiho
    Kirk Hammett
    Jimi Hendrix

Larry Drozd--lead guitar for "The Hit", an Austin, TX based group of 3 guys.

I'm no music or guitar expert but I think this guy's pretty good.

Here's a googlevideo of a 1999 show they did here..52 minutes. Not the greatest video quality but it sort of ads to the flavor.

They write all their own stuff. The first two songs AND THE LAST ONE have some good guitar hammering on them. Entertaining video with all the hair flying anyway.

Warning: The lead singer uses the "F" word twice in the video. Once on the third or fourth song and again in the intro to the last song.

The last song has Larry hammering the guitar pretty well...this song starts at approx 47 minutes into the show..just forward the cursor to that time.. the intro to this song is one of the times the "f" word is used so don't crank it up with kids around during the intro.

Take note of the color of Larry's guitar....should look familiar to Mopar owners. Check it out. Bryan Passarelli hammers the drums pretty well also.
