It seems I am still looking for 2 front inner fenders!

A special thanks to wheelz for work with me on a set, but the 2900 mile shipping fee was very expensive for parts that size.

If anyone is in a more northern state and has a good usable set, pm me please!

But, I tellya what, I know its not the previous DEAL you got for ($150 shipped) but, I'll wrap, box and ship you the driver side inner fender well as described earlier in this post for $219. YOUR CALL. Let me know what you want to do. Wheelz, Tampa Bay

How good are the Repro wheel houses? Do they even fit?
    Thanks

"How good are the Repro wheel houses? Do they even fit?"

    You want an answer to this, OK here it is;
The passenger side wheel houses are gorgeous, use as thick if not thicker metal, and go in like a glove.

This is not a "good enough" part, like some other companies supply, but is the real deal. If these were available when I needed one for my Concours Class 71 GSX I would have had one on the car.

Wow, that's quite an endorsement coming from you. Now it looks like I'm going to have to get a pair.........

Duane, perhaps you can answer this mystery, I'm getting conflicting opinions.

I have a '71 convertible that needs rear quarters. Can the new hardtop rear quarters that are now available from Then & Now (and other vendors) be fitted to a convertible, or is there just to much cutting and fussing to make it fit properly?

    Thanks

I believe the only one reproed at this time is the passenger side, hence Pengy's need for getting a used part.

As far as Mark's repro coupe quarters fitting on a convertible. The work involved depends on how exact you want it to look.

The original conv rear quarters have a reverse bend just below the top body line. That is, as you follow the quarter down from the top body line, it bends slightly in towards the trunk and then flares back out to the wheelhouse. Regardless of whether you use an NOS or one of Mark's quarters the coupe quarters do not have this "double" bend.

Some guys don't care about the double bend, cut the conv quarter just below the top body line, and weld the coupe quarter to it. This gives you a nice sweeping curve up to the body line and it looks good. (Although it is not correct.)

For those that care, and want to retain the double bend, you need to cut the qtr below the reverse bend and then weld the coupe qtr on.

Now I am not a body man and have no idea of the times involved but you get the idea. Maybe Mark Reeves, Joe Castrigano, Nick Servo, or Mike Garrison can pop on here and answer this further. I am sure they have done things like this in the past.

This is what has already been done to my convertible. The previous owner had new quarter skins put on (overlapped & welded, not butt joined & welded) just below the top body line.

Now the seams where they were welded just below the top body line are starting to show through the paint.

How many times can you get away with welding new quarters just below the top body line (mine are presently welded pretty close to the top)?

    Thanks

"Now the seams where they were welded just below the top body line are starting to show through the paint."

You might want to get that area blasted to see how they were put on. Many times the panels are only tach welded instead of full welded so the seams start cracking along the joints. If blasted and welded properly this problem should go away.

"How many times can you get away with welding new quarters just below the top body line (mine are presently welded pretty close to the top)?"

On our 70 Chevelle conv, NOS quarters were overlapped & welded, not butt welded just below the top body line on both sides. Then the car must have been hit and on the one side they cut that one off and overlapped & welded another qtr to the one they already put on.

If you look inside the qtr, where the rear side windows are, you can see where the original qtr was cut off, another installed, then it was cut off, and another installed. So the car has 3 qtrs on one side and 2 on the other.

The outside looks fine but the inside (especially in the trunk area) has got to go. We are putting full repro conv quarters on to fix all this.

The sad thing is they did all this with factory NOS quarters. What a hack job.
