Not sure if I have all the correct fasteners for the vinyl top chrome trim on my 70 GS. I need to see a pic of the fastener that is loosened from inside the trunk and a source for purchasing a set. I think there should be two per side? Thanks in advance!

I think there was a post on here before about these. I think mine are missing as well. Mine were held on by the plastic clips and some speed nuts.

I think I figured it out?? Check out the pic; I think this fastener is used in the two outer spots while the circled stud in the pic is used with just a nut. They are all accessed from inside the trunk once the trim is attached. I agree in regards to the plastic clips but the 3 holes per side in the body needed something else. Does this look correct? :idea2:

I will have to take a look at mine late as I have them stashed away. Maybe correct as I have holes in qtr as well.

Jeff, if you need some replacements Restoration Specialties has all those. If you send them yours they will match it and send you back a free sample of the match. Good folks to deal with !

Patton, ever have any luck finding the screws for the trunk lid stainless? Those are weird screws.

I think those are 10-24 pan head Phillips screws....not too rare...many GM cars use them.

Dave--Yes, I did find some. Remember, I was looking for them in stainless for durability reasons and that's what I found them in....but

    >They aren't chrome like the originals so they'll never quite look like chrome. You could polish these and get close but chrome has its own look.

    >Like George mentions, the screws I found are panhead like the originals...BUT...they don't have the slight "flattened area" on the phillips slot area like the originals. Essentially, mine are just stainless pan head machine screws from a local bolt place...nothing special. (Note: I need to dig stainless ones out as they may actually be Truss Head instead of Pan Head like the originals).

I seriously doubt anyone (AMK, etc) really has anything JUST LIKE the originals with that flat spot on the phillips slot area....I just paged through their catalog and didn't see any machine screws with that unique feature.

I would guess they are same screws found on door upper belt trim as well at each end.

PM me with your address Dave and we'll figure something out..cheap enough to mail USPostal. I have to run so won't be back on here 'til tonight..I'll dig them out when I get back. If a person really wanted to get insane on it they could file and flat sand in the small flat spot on the top of the screw head and then polish these (use some worn 1500 wetsand paper) and then buff(just by hand with some Mothers Mag Polish, etc). May have to do a little experimenting tonight on a couple to see how "close" we can get them to looking like originals.

Yes--I just took a quick look at my '72 (it has the optional window ledge moulding you mention) and it looks like they used them there are also.

Just received my order from Restoration Specialties and it is 100% correct. Part number 2819 is what I ordered. They also included some attaching nuts with the sealant already applied to prevent water intrusion. Easy people to deal with and quick shipping....highly recommend.

    just to verify-
is the clip in the picture, used to secure the stainless trim to the lower valance? this is the trim that attaches to the corner chrome pieces.
i ask this question because the clips that secure the trim on my 72 gs, are oval in shape but have what looked like two fishhook-like extensions for grasping the underside of the trim edge. i can not say that mine are original. both arer now broken, so i need to order new clips.
    tkx.
