Call me crazy but I've always liked the vinyl top Xs...the few there was/seen.....Kent? I think it is that Nick done years ago the Muscle machine of the year..the green one...hell yea! ..but the silver and black...can't get any better
Vicki Jo Irvin was single, with no children, so a relative inherited the car after she passed away years ago. The person that inherited it somehow tracked us down when they first inherited the car and asked some Buick questions. I recently ran across the owner's contact info so I called to ask if the car was still there. It is, and I was invited to come over and exam the car. When the weather improves, I'll go. I'll be sure to snap some photos. It was described to me as basically the same car as what we remember from the GS Nats, except with a few decades of age. At least two other V8Buick members have gone over and checked it out in recent years. Wasn't there someone that had a black vinyl top added to a Saturn Yellow '70 when it was nearly new? Sure seems like I remember reading that here on V8Buick a long time ago.
Seem to remember that as well....imo it doesn't work as well on the 70s...the front end just doesn't work as well as the 71/72 for the stripes AND top
I scanned this article awhile back and sent it to someone, so I'll post it here as well. I really like the '71-'72 Super Sport wheels because they are so rarely seen. It's hard to believe I was a 14-year-old kid when I got that magazine in the mail. I remember being so thrilled that we went to the GS Nats and I saw it in person.
That is Ken Lisk, original lime mist 71 with black vinyl top. A bunch of us NE guys helped Ken start the restoration by helping him pull the engine. Fun times. Here it is, In front, left to right, is Alan Wander, and Carl Rychlik, then myself and Yardley, and back row is Ken, his Dad, and Tom Telesco. The infamous 7 jackass motor. Another shot,
Yup, Bruce Armstrong had that car and one day he called me and told me to come buy all his cars and parts. This was decades ago. I am trying to remember exactly how it went, it seems like I was having my body guy remove the black vinyl top, and he told me it looked suspiciously like the roof had been replaced. So, at the time we decided the car had been rolled in it's very early life.
The redesigned Super Sport wheels on this '71 GSX were on the order form as a regular option, no special order required, they were just very unpopular. This style of Super Sport wheel were so unpopular that they were discontinued early in the '72 model year. Do you know if anyone has a photo of the '70 with the vinyl top installed?
