yea... so this guy online im buying a center channel from says he just charges actual shipping charges and has the UPS store pack it (so im paying for them to package it too (15.95)) anyways... the only size box that the UPS store sells that this box fits in is exactly 1" too big to not be a normal package but turns it into an oversize and It automatically bumps the package weight to 30 lbs. this is going to hurt....

friggen scaming companies. (wonder if i can have the guy drop the box on its flat side 1/2" and would fix the problem)

    :blast: :blast: UPS

Dell Sent my puter out through DHL... I was very impressed.... On time, Boxes were in PERFECT condition. I have also recieved other DHL shipments at work... I cannot rember ever seeing a damaged box.

Funny, ever since DHL bought Airborne Express... They've been really gunning for a share of the UPS/FedEx turf. I'm going to seriously consider them next time I ship something..... Hmmm... got some trailing arms going out soon. Guess I'll try their web site :TU:

Even the Post office has been rough latley... sent out a nice dash pad, only for it to get cut & broken in transit :af: Hope the insurance pays off for him :(

I have been burned by UPS to many times and now i use the postal service. believe it or not they treat you better, prices are lower and they dont make you as miserable as ups if you have an insurance claim. UPS's insurance policy is to always deny the claim and their usual reason is underpacked. the only time i have ever won a ups claim is when they went to pick up a damaged item to inspect it and they actually lost it.

You guys should try bringing something into Canada....the fees are unreal....here is an example on a GIFT I recieved via UPS:

    Customs GST 10.21
    Brokerage GST 2.90
    COD GST 0.30
    Entry prep Fee 35.55
    Disbursement fee: 5.85
    COD surcharge: 4.25

Total was 59.06 on a GIFT with a value of 100.00 US.

Ordered some carb parts, they shipped UPS although I specified parcel post (I did not know until it showed up that they would not send to canada unless UPS for tracking I guess), value of carb parts 43.00US (about 50.00 Can), UPS fees were 54.00 Can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will ship UPS if someone asks me too, but I WILL NOT buy anything if it will only be shipped UPS across the border... :af:

And you know, the post office can ship something up here and only charge $5.00 Canadian for everything on a 200.00 part. Go figure. BROWN is the right color, for sure....

Oh yeah.... that chaps my A**. I didn't know anything about that untill I tried shipping my Gauge cluster up there. $20 part... and they tried to charge $60 (or so) in brokerage fees. To topp it off, they wanted to charge me those fees even if I cancelled the shipment :af: . I told them to Keep it... throw it away, because that was rediculous. Was about ready to send his money back when the thing just showed up back at my door :Do No: :Do No: . Went USPS the second time around :Dou:

Almost could've drove it to canada myself easier. :blast:

I've only ever had to make one claim against UPS and they didn't argue at all. I guess it's hard to argue when you manage to BEND a class 5 Reese Titan trailer hitch!!!!!

I've also been nailed on the OS charges enough to really watch for that now. Spent a few hours packing a set of headers I sold a guy because I had to build the perfect size box to keep it in the size range! Saved him half the money it would have been if I just threw them in a box, PITA but I make it a point to ship as fair as I can and not profit on shipping.

Scammers? Do not lose accuracy in the face of P/Cness. Thieves, extortionists, and thugs would be more accurate.

I clear my own customs since they can't charge me the Canadian import that way. Do they play fair and let me clear the goods? No, they ship them to vancouver instead and threaten to junk the parts if I didn't pay.

UPS will always be Under Paid Slaves or Unilateral Police State to me

But the oversize and 'bulk' rules do apply for a reason

Consider this: you are working in the Hub loading trucks. Your goal for rate is 800 packages an hour. You don't really DO 800 an hour, it's an extrapolation, but still, you are VERY busy loading a constant stream of packages.

When a bulk or oversize item comes along, it doesn't get loaded into the trailer the same way a 'normal sized' 5-69 lb package will.

What this means for you is essentially less chance of breakage

They're not doing it to simply get more money from you, although I despise UPS

This knowledge comes from six years of personal experience putting packages into UPS trailers and also from driving a Brownie

ALL shippers have oversize rules, and it has been a while, but I think they all use the SAME dimensions too. :Smarty:

Customs and crap like that is your goverment at work.

I'll agree with you on point one, but the post office doesn't have the ridiculous fees that UPS does.

They claim that they have the fees because they're not a bonded carrier and the gov't makes them apply it. Funny though, the original point of entry is allowed proper clearance due to bonded carrier status! A total lie!

Ask to get a copy of your import papers from UPS, (you paid for them, you should get a copy right?) they WON'T send them to you because it indicated Bonded Carrier right on the papers! That's assuming they even fill out the paperwork being a bonded carrier.

Sorry, but this is pure management thievery at work.

chris what burns me is that what was being shipped was 22x10x10. the only box they sell at the UPS store, for that size was 24x17x13. , kinda odd numbers. and just big enough to fall into the oversized catergory. not 24x16x12 Nice coincidence eh?

Well, if I was still with Big Brown, I'd simply say "You do have the option to find your own box and package it to your own satisfaction, sir, you are not limited to our selection. We are open until 5".

I hate defending UPS but they are a shipping company, not a packing company. They aren't goping to stock every box size 'just in case'. It is no coincidence- just good business sense (which amazes me they have in any quantity) to only stock the most common sizes.

I'd never let them box anything for me. They break the stuff often enough, how do the heck do they know how to package anything?!
