    I Just spoke

I just spoke with a Lawyer who handles this type of thing and was told that I have less then 1% chance of winning this case, Like you said they will always blame the Shipper or the Reciever and the Burden of proof is on Me or the Shipper to prove WHEN AND HOW it was damaged by them.Another words If I did not follow the Transmission every step of the way then I can not prove that they did it! Well If I could have followed it thru their shipping process, I would have not needed them in the first place!
I also Spoke to a Driver for them and He said that he would never ship something thru them unless it was made out of something indestructible! But knowing how they handle the Items in the different Wharehouses they could still find a way to destroy it!
Plus The fact they already have their Money from Me! So they walk away with a WIN WIN deal! Well Heres to you UPS :moonu: :moonu: :moonu:

Ups screwed up 2 perfect rust free doors for my 66.One edge was rolled over all the way down and a big a@@ crease,The other had a huge dent.I didn't bother calling ups because they destroyed some of a coworkers stuff and blew him off.We fixed the doors but it wouldn't have taken half the time it did if they didn't kill the the things. As a side note I got a fender from NJ shipped by fedex with no issues

    UPS Distress

Cool thread...got me thinking about a tan GS console I shipped to Florida in 2001. Same old story, showed up in 3 (or 4, or 5) pieces. Complete runaround for about 5 weeks, with the aforementioned crap until I started to phone every day and then we got some attention. If memory serves correct, it took the better part of two months for the fellow to get his money, at which point they told me "...we coulda just paid you, 'cause you're the shipper". Thanx for the heads up, guys. I have never shipped with them since! All my stuff (what little I sell) goes out Canada Post or Purolator and I insist on USPS coming out of the US...never had a problem either way, other than 2 or 3 days late. As well, to the Canadians on the board, UPS imposes a 'border clearance' fee (SCAM!) that must be paid on delivery of an item originating in the US. Just ran into this yesterday with some much-needed software for some AV work my buddy is doing...same old story...sat in Calgary for 2 days (!) before getting to Edmonton with the 'border clearance' fee attached. ($80 on a $500 piece of software!) Another piece (same approx. value) was shipped FedEx Overnite, showed up at 10 AM the next day, with no fees...hmmm...wonder who they'll use next time... :Brow: Just out of curiosity, does UPS hit Americans with a 'border clearance' fee when you buy parts out of Canada?

I've had 50+ packages sent through ups, never had a problem. Had heads shipped by fedex and after a 3,000 mile trip south of where they were supposed to go, the showed up with the box beaten and ripped open and a broken rocker pivot. Poor fedex guy, had to carry that box containing two complete big block heads across the street, up the walkway and up the stairs, not.

No wonder why they do this, it discourages people who dealt with them in the past to make claims... And most of the time, the shipper uses our money to ship the item.

I had a few bad experiences with UPS too... Their service is terrible and they break half of the packages they send.
The brockerage fees they charge on packages sent to Canada are unbelievably high.

They bent a very rare 1975 Electra air bag steering wheel which was the same color as mine. And they refunded the shipper...
Their tracking system is often wrong, packages that are supposed to be out for delivery one day are forgotten. The next day, they are in the wrong truck...
They bent another steering wheel for my 65, I didn't make a claim this time.

And many other things were damaged. The bigger/heavier the item is, the higher is the probability that they'll break it.
I was lucky with a 65 Wildcat NOS fender which arrived in good shape, I was surprised this time!

The last claim I made was for an old Pioneer tube receiver that I bought for parts. It arrived with a damaged cover and there was a big hole in the box. I didn't need the cover but I decided to make a claim anyway. Well, after many many phone calls  , impossibility to join the seller and telling them the past experiences I had with them, they finally decided to refund ME!

One week later, they charged my account over 150$ to ship a Kent-Moore ACRS analyser with their "express" service (which I didn't ask for). The tool wasn't heavy and was worth about 30$. I bought another identical ACRS analyser later in the same week. The second one I bought for nearly the same price was shipped with USPS, arrived sooner, and did cost less than 25$ to ship...

When I got my account, the agent at UPS told me that if I wanted to give my account number to sellers, they could ship items to me with it and I'd pay for the shipping. I asked her if it was safe to do so, she said yes. She asked me which service I wanted to use in this case, I said UPS standard in any case. She said it was fine but apparently it wasn't :af: ... I used my account number only once. Since then, they keep sending me advertizing for their services and they still can't write my name correctly... I recently answered a survey they sent me about their service. I said it was all wrong and was never contacted by one of their agents about it.

What's worse than shipping with UPS? Shipping with UPS to Canada!

I have read so many horror stories about ups that when I sent my 69 GS grille to be refinished by Dave Tumas in Kennersville, NC I built a box out of wood. When it reached his house he told me the coffin had arrived. LOL. He shipped it back to me and it was still in one piece. It cost more to ship the box then the grille. Just my two cents.

UPS what brown did for me.

They must learn this in training classes. I was restoring my 72 stage 1 and UPS destroyed my trans when it was being shipped back. My wife and I are in the kitchen right after work one day and we hear this dull thud. Thirty seconds later the doorbell rings an it is a 90# women UPS driver with my tranny in a wooden crate on her two wheel dolly with the torque converter also strapped in the crate. I noticed the crate was lopsided as she asks me to sign for it. I said let me inspect it first which really ticked her off; you see we lived in Miami at the time, it was 5:30 PM and traffic was nuts so she was not in a good mood to begin with. I only took a couple of minutes to unscrew the wood off the end and slide the trans out to find the bell housing in two pieces. Now I know what the thud was (I'm guessing she pushed it off the back of the truck) but I asked her how she managed to lift a TH400 with torque converter in a wood crate off the back of the truck and to the ground. She said it was tough but she managed. I asked her why she did not ask for help unloading it because dropping it was not the way to get the job done. No answer. I would not accept the trans as it was broken so she asks me to help her load it back in her truck which I refuse to saying she did not need my help to pick it up before. She's hot now and I tell her to use my phone and call for help. He supervisor tells her to go on and he will stop by to pick it up. He shows up saying maybe I broke it taking the end off. To which I just say goodbye and closed the door. I called the shipper and told them the story and eventually got my trans back in one piece but had to go the UPS warehouse will call to get it.

Last year, Yardley offered up a set of rubber rear window seals to the first person responding. He had inadvertantly ordered two sets for his Riv.

Since these would fit both 68-69 Rivs and 64-65 Skylarks and were free for the asking, I jumped all over them. He even offered to pay shipping, the great dude he is. :TU:

Well, about 10 days later, brown leaves a delivery notification at my door, so I call them immediately upon returning home from work. It at that time when they advised me of a 22.30 "C.O.D.", payable to the driver. WTF is this all about?????  So, I tell them I'll come pick the shipment up that night, thinking maybe this will reduce the COD amount, wrongo, had to pay entire amount. This was on top of what those shysters charged Yardley to ship the thing. :af:

Needless to say, UPS is not a shipping option for me. Fedex is usually cheaper, and Post office has been reliable for me. :TU: I'll also consider Purolator for Canadian packages, as I was once a manager there.

    Please Keep This Post Going!

I am not the type of person who jumps all over someone for a mistake that they have made,UNLESS they try and lie about it. I know accidents happen but I feel when a Large Company makes a mistake and tries to Lie about it then I will Jump all over them! UPS Is a company that takes advantage of the little guy NO MATTER WHAT THEIR ADDS MIGHT SAY! I am like the rest of the People here and I am trying to raise a Family and put food on the Table. MY Hobby of working on my WILDCAT is just my way of giving myself a "Pat on the back" or a small reward for doing a good job of taking care of My family. Not ever has any money gone in to this project until my Family's needs have been met! So the Money I do put out has to be carefully thought out and planned down to the last Dollar. So when Goliath tries to rip off the little man I will stand up and shout about it and I will push back! I would like to her from all of you that had problems with shipping a package.

I find it amazing that these tossers can get away with it, but your laws are different to ours. We have a system in operation over here for hot rodders, started by a truck driver, and it's so simple it's brilliant.
Somebody one end of the country wants something from the other end. They advertize on a forum, and fellow rodders (read Buick fans) along the route pick them up, move them a bit further, and drop them off with someone else.

Now there's three benefits to this.
1, your parts are looked after by fellow enthusiasts
2, you get to meet new people, and friendships may be formed
    3, it don't cost a cent

It works here, it could work for you too.

    I Really Like The Idea!!!!!!

I LIKE THAT IDEA AOT! JOLLY GOOD OL'BOY! , I would be more then willing to help out :TU: It really would help all of us! We could all save and also profit from that system! I wonder if we could get something like that started here? A place to sign up for it or some thing to that affect.
BUT I CARRY GOOD NEWS! I almost forgot about my old friend Angelo who started welding back in his old country (ITALY) when he was around 11 or 12 years old when his Father and Grandfather taught him to weld. He is now around 70 something but looks more like late 40 something and has been a Welder all his life fixed my Trans!!!!! I wish I had taken some pictures before it was put in. You can barely see where He repaired it! I had helped him out a few months ago making a Jig for him in my shop so that he could make a Custom set of stairs for one of his Clients, I ran in to him last Friday at the local Food Market and as we were talking and it was him that had noticed the Trans in My pickup he asked about it and I told him what was wrong and he said he would be more then happy to fix it! So the WILDCAT GROWLS ONCE AGAIN!  :TU:
