Second time around i have really learned alot. Wish i would have done a front mount turbo the first time and i should have had a better game plan when i started. Unfortunitly it been taking so long to buy all the parts and complete the body and fab work that when something better comes out it make me rethink my decision. now i am at the finish line with the rebuilt 401 done again but this time ready to handle serious power. It is .038 over with a set of Ross pistons,ARP hardware and Alot of R&D work. i am going to post some more vidoes of the car once painted in the next week or so. looks gd for some cruises this summer.

Well,,, you just need a Doc dual plane intake and a 1050 three barrel on that puppy,,,, coupled with that turbo, it would be a bears bear ......:Brow::laugh::laugh:

I have a spare intake that will get the doc treatment. i would like to do a comparison between the two. want to do another 53 international pick-up and want to do trips on a nailhead, all copper lines and make it retro

Working out the bugs now, had a few leaks here and thier. If anyone wants i can put a video of how we tune it with the o2 sensors. Very easy to use and takes the guess work out of tuning

Tomorrow when i go back to work i will record it. I still need to get the a/f up at idle. I am currently at 13.1-13.3 @ idle and I would like 14.2-14.5
At 2500 under boostI would like to be 12.8-13.2 .

I am running a CSU prepped 4150hp 750cfm.. they said with the turbo not to go big on the cfm. I trust them being they build some of the fastest blow thru setups in the country.

Hi Paul, glad to see your making progress. Any plans to see what this does on the dyno? I am thinking My next build is going to be a turbo. Just hope its not soon. I have been watching yours since you started posting:TU:

Paul, that things sounds awesome. I have been following your build here and on the pro touring site. I really love the all around look of it too. Cant wait to see more. Later, Richie

  10. Looks good Paul. I know it's been a long road. I'll have to get down there and take a look at it.

the local UTI automotive college isnt to far and a friend of mine runs the show over thier and he is big into racing so he keeps telling me when i am ready bring it down.. i would love to know what it puts down so thier is no guessing. i would guess alot of hp and alot more torque. maybe 500hp and 700tq at 7psi from what it looks like on paper but who knows. fuel system and ignition will handle 1000hp and so will the rearend. my biggest concern is the th400 that has already been welded and now has aluminum plate welded to the bell housing to add strength. I wonder what the stock crank and rods can handle..anyone know?? i used ARP main studs and ARP 1000 rod bolts with ARP head studs so i am hoping that helps keeping the rods stay together and keep fronm head gasket issues..

Richie, i really do appreciate the comments and to here you guys like what i am doing makes it pretty cool. i love hearing feedback and helps keep me going when i get stuck on a problem when working on the car. I am a normal guy with a busy life and my car isnt my top priority so it is taking longer than i would have wanted. I love my Buick but with coaching two sports, a house with multiple projects, teaching, and just getting married it is tuff to find more than 10-15 hours a week for the car. with this car i have uncountable hours and it just takes time.
Paul, come bye any time and that goes to any car guy- let me get it in paint and hopefully by the end of the month i will have it back at my house garage to put the interior in it.
Thanks to the guys on here who have gave me the info and little tips and tricks( thanks john) and many others to get me where i am now, i really do apprecited it http://www.streetlegaltv.com/news/turbocharged-nailhead-’66-buick-skylark-is-one-cool-project-car/..
i found this on the internet the other day and it was written about the car a year and half ago and it is cool to see how far it has come since than.

Paul keep up the nice work. We will be bringing my car to the BPG Event in August(you asked about events during the summer):Brow:.

Today we finally took my blown Nailhead out of my dragster and shoehorned it in to Jenn's vintage rear engine dragster. At a whopping 40 inches high it looks mean. I'll post some pictures in the Nailhead section Monday.

Keep up the good work and I hope to see you in Ohio:TU:

Wow!!!! Love the sound of that turbo whistle!!!
You may need something a little more sturdy that the stock 7/16 axle studs!!! :)

    66larkgs paul 66gs turbo nailhead

already took care of that.. ARP 1/2 studs in moser axles with a detroit locker and now 3:55.. had 3:73 but dont need it.. the rear is a new quickstreet performance 9" that was narrow 1.5 on each side just to be able to run a little deeper dish wheel... tubular upper and lower rear control arms with a 1" rear sway bar with 3 way adjustable rear shocks and ridetech bags. 1.625 front splined sway bar and adjustable front showckwaves. i think i have most areas covered but i feel even though i used 1310 ujoint i still think they are the weakpoint.

doc ,john or anyone else- what is the most power someone has seen a stock crank and rods handle.they have great hardware and are fordge but are still stock.

John the hair stood up on my arms when i read your post. let me know where you are staying, super8 maybe and i going to be thier. hopefully have some miles on it before but who knows. cant wait to hear and see your cars. just looked up mapquest
12 hour drive but i love to drive. we did 17 for bikeweek in myrtle beach in the rain and 30 straight for the blizzard so i 12 will be a cakewalk.
anyone else in the ma,nh ,nj,vt area going to bpg in ohio

Paul the run for me is 27 hours:(. We are planning to be there though. I will make a few arrangements for lodging soon.
As for the strength question, I have put a lot of nitro through my Nailhead with no issues, in fact that is the engine in Jenn's dragster now.
Good luck with wrapping up the little things before paint.

Great Progress Paul! Glad to see you went with the front-mount... it sure looks better!
Curious to hear how the two setups compare with respect to turbo lag. My old '79 Turbo Regal (draw-thru carb) had a 2 second delay.... floor it, count to 2, then hold on! I loved that car, hope to get it back together someday.
Can't wait to see that thing painted. It's got great wheels a a nice stance. And that sound..... priceless!:TU:

Good job! Should be no lag with that setup! I can not wait to get mine together... Who cares if mine only makes 600 HP the torque will be crazy!

Personally, I think that the stock rods/crank would be good for 600 hp.... more than that would possibly get custom rods....you could polish out the stock rods and make them some stronger.... it is the cap and the wrist area that is the weakest in any rod.... and the stock rods are really strong for the amount of power a nail puts out....but..... that was before turbos came along.....:idea2::Brow::Brow:

i dont think i will be over 600hp and when i had them recondition I had them shot peened and than ARP bolts so i hope i am good. Guess we will see..i do plan on making it to bpg in ohio but want to make sure it will be done in time. i didnt forget about the vidoe doc but have a power steering line leaking and took it all apart to chase it down so once i get it back together i will take a video. hoping the next few days i can get some big work done, finished a big engine job on a dodge ram so i got my lift open again so i can run my single exhaust out the back.. its 3" but adds kind of a sleeper look to it. John how much power is that nailhead makeing in Jenns dragster???
ohh and 12 doesnt seem so bad after hearing 27hours
