The local GS club put together a Dyno session today, so I thought I'd try to make it out after work today. I was a little late in the action, but got there in plenty of time to make a pull. I had never run my car on a dyno before, so it was as scary as my first racing experience

The guys were really cool about it, and walked me through exactly what I needed to do.:TU:

I never realized how LOUD my car can get when I let it rip. I guess it helps being in a 1-car garage setting...but wow! That was the coolest part about it.

    But anyway, onto the dirt:

    253.5 hp @ 4400 RPM
    367.1 TQ @ 2700 RPM

Not the biggest numbers I've ever seen, but it was a blast! A great way to kill a few bucks:grin:

Bob - sorry I missed you, but the rest of the group made me feel very welcome, and I'll be at the meeting on Sunday.

Sweet, I'd like to do that too some day.. If you have 250hp, I've probably got around 180hp in mine. Any curves to scan for us..? Pretty please with a buick on top!

    Combo = stock ....mostly

I have iron untouched Stage1 heads, full length headers, 2.5" X pipe exh, and a B4B manifold. Distributor is recurved. That is about it!

Hey Adam, those are very good numbers at the wheels!

    Thanks Dan..

Is there a type of "equation" that I can use to figure out the ballpark flywheel HP with the numbers I have?

That is good numbers, considering the HP loss from gross to net would put you around 310-340 hp at the crank, I would guess.

No cam swap yet. I'm "hoping" to get it done this Winter. I have a lumpy cam in the basement, but it's too much for what I want. I want a milder cam.

What would be a good cam to go for, something similar to a stage one cam, or something a little bit wilder?

a very loose estimate would be:
254=.8x(for a 20 percent drivetrain loss, pry a little more for an auto, less for manual)
    317.5 hp :TU:

I'm thinking a bit wilder than the Stage1 cam.

Add 20% for driveline losses, and you'll have SAE Net figures. Add in another 20%, and you'll be near the old SAE Gross numbers.

What was your time/speed on the quartermile? Interesting to see if the dyno, math, and track all correspond.

Did you get any data so you could make sure your carb is right, or just the hp/tq numbers?

I wish there was a chassis dyno within 200 miles of here.......sigh.

My air/fuel ratios were all out of whack at part throttle, but when I let it rip, it was a dead straight line at just under 13. So I need to have my carb tuned/done:Dou:

I ran a best or 15.05 @ 89 or something like that in Salem this year. It was blazing hot, so I don't think it would be a very accurate reading if you put it up to this dyno run.

Let's see; :Smarty: (wish I could get tables to line up.)

    Dyno +20% driveline
    hp 253.5 304.2 354.9
    tq 367.1 440.5 513.9

    +20% driveline losses (SAE Net)
    hp 304.2
    tq 440.9

    +another 20% (to SAE Gross)
    354.9
    513.9
    (Matches Buick's numbers)

And based on a 4700 lb car going 89 in the 1/4, calculated RWHP = 258.6
So the math agrees with your dyno. Don't know what it means, but I love it when math works out....

Cool, how do you get the rwhp equation based on the times from the track?
