If you don't like all those telephone conversations, don't list a telephone number.
For some reason, those "fake buyers" are not really into sending e-mails :Smarty:

If you have a feeling that a received e-mail is a waste of time, simply don't answer it.

I will give you the benefit of the doubt, and assume this is not directed at me personally.

I am in no way condoning the BMW owner's behavior, only sharing in his frustration. My solution was to cease using Craigslist. He has obviously not arrived at the same logical conclusion.

It is not the conversations that were a waste of my time. It is only those conversations where the prospective buyer made a commitment then failed to follow through on it. This happened more than 5 times in the 2+months the transmission was listed.

Most e-mails came from prospective buyers asking me to call them, which I will not do. All e-mails were answered, stating that my phone number was in the ad, please call with any questions. The eventual sale of the trans was handled entirely by email other than a brief call from the buyer to inform me his ETA was about 10 minutes.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind responding to questions regarding items I sell, either by phone or by e-mail. I actually expect it. What I have little tolerance for, is someone who commits to something then fails to meet that commitment. That is a waste of my time.

How can it be a waste of your time when they don't show up to waste your time ?

If the item is sold from your home, make an appointment at a time you will be there anyway.
Never be forced to stay home to sell something, only to find out that the "buyer" doesn't show up.

They want an item you're selling, so you can make the rules.
If they can't accept those rules, the item will not change owners.

When your selling something, you cant be inflexible when it comes to making appointments. For me, there really is no good time, so what am I supposed to say? There is no question selling stuff on Craigs is a PITA. For me its because of the weirdos my stuff seems to attract.

I had one guy fail to show 6 times. Then he calls me out of the blue at 6pm when Im making dinner and says he's 2 blocks away. I was axious to get rid of the trans i was seling so I took the time. he didnt realize it, but the guy was leaving with the trans even if I had to give it away. Luckily he offered $125 :). The funny thing is (well, not a the time) that he came with no money and had to go to an ATM and come back further interupting my evening.

I in no way meant to criticize you, you did the right thing it irritated you so you stooped using it. I was afraid I might be taken wrong I was referring to the post Bad Boattail pointed to where he used Craig's List many times but he still whines about the service. He should just stop using it if its such a bad experience for (him) definitely not you. Sorry if I didn't quite express myself correctly it was in no way directed at you

    Jason.

I will admit to being inflexible. My Craigslist experiences showed me the end of my rope.

Sorry I didn't take more time to stop and talk to you at BPG. I did admire your car on a couple of occasions though, it is a good looking car. Perhaps I should learn to be more of a people person myself.

We sell all our cars on Craigslist and I could tell a million stories.
I could write a book or even make a movie about my experiances.

I never wait around for anyone, I've got to much going on in my day.
My ability to read people out on the phone more or less weeds out the shoppers from the genuine buyers.

Give me any B.S. when you call at some ungodly hour, say 11pm, sure I'll meet you if you insist, then I send them to a getto neighborhood and I turn off my phone.

I should quit while I'm behind, once again the "He" I was referring to was the "Joe" guy not you, I was just referring to your post. I find myself apologizing again for my inability to correctly identify my pronouns.:Do No:

Same here! Too many people at the BPG to talk to. I felt bad I didnt talk to some more, you included. The day goes by so fast. Thank for the compliment on my car. All those pretty GS's and GSX's in the show made mine look like a heap. :beers2:

I have to say it was an honor having Duane pick on my car! :error::Dou::laugh:
