Ive been thinking about going with a pro touring style wheel/tire combo for the '72. I was thinking 18x10 rear and 17x7 fronts. Does anybody have pics of a similar combo? If so, what tire sizes? FYI, its going to be stock ride height.

I say go 17s all around
    17x 11 in the back with a 315-35-17
    17x9.5 with 275-40-17

or if you measure really well, I bet you can fit a 335-35-17 un rthere with minor trimming

I've got 17's all around on my 72. Not quite what you are thinking of but kind of. All depends on what you like. Peace, Mike D.

The setup on that chevelle is similar to what I had in mind actually. (funny how I was obsessed with chevelles before i got my buick and now everytime I see one it just doesnt light my fire!!)

Hey mike, do you have any pictures of your combo on your car? Id like to see that, as you and N.F.5384 arent the first to suggest 17's all around.

I think it's a great idea. As long as the wheels still fit in the wheel well and there's a decent amount of rubber it'll still look classic and still modern at the same time.

Curt's '70 is a prime example. He's running 18"x9.5" Coys with 5.5" Backspacing with a gun metal finish. His tires are Nittos with 275/40r17 and 285/40R17. I hope he doesn't mind me using his picture, but his car looks SHARP!

Both those are examples of what im leaning towards, especially curts '70. Thats even the same style wheel i want. Are they 18x9.5 all around?? I didnt think a 9.5 would fit up front without some decent modification.

Phil It really *is* a 350...

I put 17x9.5 all around with 275/40-17 Sumitomo tires using 2002 Camaro SS wheels. It required billet adapters which I got from one of the board members. Depending on what you remove and fitment, you *could* get 315/30-17's on all four corners with the right wheels, backspacing, adapters and a little trimming. I also have 2" dropped spindles up front. On rare occasions they rub a little on one of the inner fender bolt tabs up front, which I could easily remedy with a cutoff wheel.

phil, I wish I woulda known 17x9.5s would fit all the way around. I passed on a set of torq thrust 2's (17x9.5 with almost new rubber) off a 4th gen f-body that I thought would look awesome because I didnt think theyd fit!!:Dou: Oh well, live and learn....

    Thanks for the input guys!

So you're saying I can put 17x8's all the way around with 275/40-17's in the back and 235/40-17's in the front and possibly drop the body 2" and they won't rub?? Please say it's so!

Probably. I'm pretty sure that without a drop you wouldn't rub at all with that combo, but from a driver standpoint you're better off running same width on all four corners than big and littles.

My fronts used to rub by far more with the old 235/60-15's on Crager street stars with the 2" drop than they do now.

Joe, Im not goin that extreme, but with the right stance that kind of setup does look pretty good. Actually my inspiration for goin this route was the owner of the shop thats doin my engine work. His Roadrunner (probably one of the nicest cars Ive ever seen in person) has a setup similar to that. Here's a pic...

I have 17x7's with 225/45's on the front of my 69 and they are fine. I would guess that 17x8's would be as well, but it is all in getting the correct back spacing.

BIGJOE, that picture of the red Chevelle looks awesome! What was done to the suspension? How much was it lowered? Thanks!

Phil, my goal is to eventually lower the car, so what I'm looking for is a front wheel/tire combo that will work if lowered 1.5-2". Do you think the 275/40's would rub with that kind of drop?

Sriley, that roadrunner is really nice and those have to be 20's. Todd the red Chevelle is lowered 2 inches in the back and he has 20x10's in the back and 18x8's up front. I've never seen a buick have this pro touring style so hopefully I can be the first. I'm still gonna have my stocks on too.
