Hey gang- I just got back from my first highschool dance... and sweet Jesus, girls are expensive! I dropped $120 in less than six hours. And my date just expected me to pony all that cash, even though she's the one who asked me. Once we were at the actual dance, and I'd spent $50 getting us in the door and our pictures taken, she walked off to go talk to someone else. Does this whole concept seem a little silly to anyone else? o No: ~Stampy
Don't get into the habit of throwing money @ women, that is a hard one to get out of. The good ones will stick around for the drive-thru at Wendy's... :TU: Good luck, Kevin
Welcome to the dating world ! I'm sure most all of us have been there . Try to plan a budget date if possible , but special dates do cost more . Boy to be in school again .... :Brow: Good Luck and enjoy ! :eek2:
prices you know, it's been a long time since I was in his shoes but short of a prom that seems like allot of money. I am fortunate and get to do allot of things in the good life so I know what I can do for $120. He could have taken his "girlfriend/date/whomever" to a really nice restaurant in the city, taken in a show(Broadway) for similar money - it's sad when "school" events take that much money out of a "kids or families" pocket. And even worse is it's expected!!!!! I know I have this to look forward to as my son is 13.
I don't know this girl so I hope you don't take it personally, but I say drop her. I think you may have been had. Any girl actually the least bit interested in you would have stuck around with you, even if she made you pay. sounds like she just wanted to get in for free. I've done both sides of the female question. MY first girl wanted everything paid for, my fiance has always split 50/50. Usually I'd pay the whole shot on one date and she'd pay the whole shot on another.
$120.00!!!! Smartin spent $400.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When I was in school, $40 would have been hard to come up with and that was not That long ago. Easy habit to get into. Don't get started doing it! It only gets worse with time. If you drop money into your Buick, or even better your bank account, neither will walk off and leave you for a conversation with a friend.
Don't ever let a woman "Play" you! They are just as bad as men. If the $120 didn't include the hotel room, then you got taken (Just kidding  ). I can't stand women like that. Someone that's meant for you will put as much effort into a relationship as you.
I knew that it was going to cost me... but I wasn't even taking her as her boyfriend, or anything! It was as a favor, because her other date bailed out on her at the last minute. She even lied to me about having money! In the picture line she only had "two or three dollars", but when all the boys were finally broke, she busted out a twenty and bought some gormet coffee. Women... but meh, at least I learned my lesson. Never, ever go to a school dance. Ever. Except maybe as a swingin' single :bglasses: ~Stampy
$120 not bad. Hmmm.... last school dance I went to, crap I don't want to think. I know for prom, just to get in it cost $70. Home coming dance was about $40 IIRC. That's not counting dinner, clothes, etc.
back in the middle 60's (64-66), i can remember going to 3 proms with the same girl . we both lived on farms and i can remember spending $5 for a corsage & $20 for tickets . and a great time was had by all . after the dance , i remember going to a couple of house parties at friends , with no booze !
Don't let this experience put you off. Just try to find the right girl to go there with. It's not always possible, but try to discuss these things before hand, so that there will hopefully be no misunderstandings. Women are hard to figure out, never assume anything with them. Good luck in the future, I'm sure you'll meet many more.
Girls I was a "Band Nerd" and a hot rodder in high school. I only went to three dances that I remember including my senior prom. Two of the three were really bad experiences.... I remeber the prom in particular. My "date" was a last minute fixup as the first girl I asked decided she'd rather go to the dance with one of my best friends. I didn't hit it off with ms. convenient, and she was back home and I was hanging out in the school parking lot with my friends by about 10:30. I had borrowed my dad's car and left my not-yet-painted '68 Firebird 400 at home. Not long after I got to the school, some IDIOT came absolutely TEARING down the street, smoking the tires in every gear, powersliding corners, finally drifted into the parking lot and did a full 360 smoking the tires again. It was my G.D. KID BROTHER in MY CAR!!!!!! He was laughing hysterically!!!!!!! I was so mad I thought I was going to explode. After screaming at him, I swapped cars and sent him packing home. After I thought about it, I was actually proud of the little rat. That memory now remains as the BEST thing that happened on my prom night. School dances are generally a pretty traumatic experience. The kids who do well and always have a date usually end up married very young and bagging groceries for a living. Nerds like me bloom late. Either way, anybody who remembers high school as "the best time of my life" peaked really early!
I spend all my wife's money! I LET her cater to me. Hee hee. What she doesn't know won't not only hurt her, but it sure helps me out a lot!
